Employees of the James Corporation of Camp Douglas, Wis., move the new Automated Teller Machine (ATM) shelter into place near the Main Post Exchange. The project also includes moving the ATM from its present location in building 1559 to the new shelter. The new ATM shelter is expected to be operational in early March.

National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans set for Feb. 13-19   [ back to top ]
The Great Lakes Health Care System-Tomah will celebrate the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans during the week of Feb. 13-19.

One aspect of the National Salute celebration is the local competition for the National Veterans Creative Arts program. Veterans may enter in any of four broad categories: music, dance, drama and the visual arts.

Art entered in the visual arts competition will be on display at The Great Lakes Health Care System - Tomah, in building 407, room 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 15-17. Members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibit and vote for the "People's Choice" award.

Community Open House for Hospitalized Veterans [ back to top ]
A community open house will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, as part of the efforts of the Great Lakes Health Care System-Tomah to honor the 2000 National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans.

The open house will begin at noon in building 407, room 5 and is open to members of the public. Attendees are welcome to visit veterans and view their artwork at the Creative Arts Festival Art Competition.

A chili lunch fund-raiser also will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in building 407, room 8.

Commissary case lot sale Feb. 17-18 [ back to top ]
A case lot sale will be held Feb. 17-18 at the Fort McCoy Commissary, building 2132.

Case lot sales are sales where items are sold in bulk quantities on a first-come, first-served basis. Only authorized patrons may use the commissary.

The event begins with a Moon Lite Sale from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 17. The sale will continue Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

La Crosse Bobcats to host McCoy Appreciation Night Feb. 19 [ back to top ]
A Fort McCoy Appreciation Night will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at a La Crosse Bobcats basketball game.

The Bobcats will play the Rockford Lightning at the La Crosse Center. Special halftime entertainment will include a show by the "LUVABULLS," the cheerleaders for the Chicago Bulls. Doors will open at 6 p.m.; the game begins at 7:35 p.m.

Members of the Fort McCoy community who attend the game can get specially priced tickets for $7 (mezzanine seats), $4 (general reserve seats) and $2 (wild bunch seats). Tickets must be reserved by Wednesday, Feb. 16.

No transportation will be provided. Ticket registration forms are available at the Community Recreation Center, building 2000, or call (608) 388-3213.

Ciatti's Restaurant of La Crosse, also will offer a pre-game meal for $5 for McCoy ticket holders.

Black History Month celebrated throughout February [ back to top ]
Black History Month is being celebrated by the federal government throughout the month of February.

People in the Fort McCoy community are encouraged to celebrate the month by viewing a Web video "Lest We Forget," which will be available at the Equal Employment Opportunity (Special Staff) section of the Fort McCoy corporate network.

TROA offering students scholarship money [ back to top ]
The Retired Officers Association (TROA) is giving away new scholarship money, and it needs help identifying a scholarship winner among the student dependents in the Fort McCoy community.

The program is called "Scholarship 200," since TROA is honoring 200 college-bound or current undergraduate students at 200 major bases and installations worldwide. One student at each designated base or installation will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship grant for the 2000-2001 school year. The grants are based on merit and leadership qualities, not financial need. No essay is required in the application.

To be eligible, a student must be younger than age 24, working on a first undergraduate degree, and be a dependent son or daughter of an active-duty service person, officer or enlisted, in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, U.S. Public Health Service, or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This includes members of the drilling Reserves and National Guard. TROA membership is not required.

Application is by the World Wide Web only. To apply go to http://www.troa.org. Go to "Member Services," then to "Scholarship and Education Assistance," and follow the instructions. The deadline for submission is March 1. Winners will be notified in early April.

Members of the Fort McCoy community can use the computers at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111, to access and submit the forms. Personnel wishing to use the ACS computers should call (608) 388-3505 in advance to reserve use of the computers at a specific time.

Morning aerobics classes offered [ back to top ]
Morning step aerobics classes now are available at the Fort McCoy Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The classes will be offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning at 8:15 a.m.

Baby-sitting also is available for the morning classes.

These classes are in addition to step aerobics classes offered Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:45 p.m.

Water aerobics classes will continue to be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:45 p.m.

All classes require fees. For more information, call the Fitness Center at (608) 388-2290/2625.
