The Fort McCoy Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122, locker
rooms will undergo major renovations, tentatively beginning in the
November time frame.
Bob Baldwin, the Fort McCoy Sports and Physical Activities
director, said the repairs were ordered when mold and mildew were
discovered in the mens and womens locker room sections at the fitness
center.
The work will include repairing walls, replacing carpeting, and
fixing the air control system.
Baldwin said this will give better air exchange to both locker
rooms and help mitigate the mold/mildew problems.
During the project, authorized fitness center patrons will have
locker room areas in the buildings behind the fitness center -
building 1117 (female) and building 1118 (male).
Baldwin said the Rumpel Fitness Center staff is looking at ways
to enclose walkways between the fitness center and the temporary
locker room areas.
"We want to make it as easy as possible on our customers
and ensure their comfort so they aren't out in the cold or exposed to
the elements after exercising," Baldwin said.
Anyone who has a permanent locker in either of the locker rooms
should remove the contents as soon as possible to facilitate the
project, he said.
Mike Napsey, Directorate of Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DMWR)
project manager, said the contract was awarded to the Belonger
Corporation of West Bend, Wis., at a meeting Oct. 19.
The earliest start date for the project is Nov. 7.
The project is expected to take about 90 days. Tentative
completion is set for February
2006, Napsey said.
The fitness center gymnasium, weight room, cardio theater room
and indoor pool and atrium areas will remain open during the project,
Baldwin said.
