Training dates scheduled for FY 2017 SHARP courses

Dates have been set for fiscal year 2017 Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) refresher courses.
Soldiers and Department of the Army civilians may complete one of the three options for the in-person annual training requirement.

Overview training will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 24, 2017; Feb. 23, 2017; March 21, 2017; April 18, 2017; May 31, 2017; June 13, 2017; July 13, 2017; Aug. 10, 2017; Aug. 23, 2017; Sept. 6, 2017; and Sept. 12, 2017. The training describes the effects of sexual harassment and sexual assault, examines prevention strategies, and discusses Department of Defense sexual-assault statistics and reporting.

Bystander training, which is intended for people interested in learning active bystander prevention techniques, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 29, 2016; Dec. 15, 2016; and May 11, 2017.

Leadership training, which is intended to provide leaders an in-depth overview of the Green Dot program, is scheduled for Nov. 16, 2016, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

All classes will be at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

SHARP annual refresher training is mandatory and must be completed by Sept. 30, 2017. Advance registration is required. Unit or directorate training is available upon request.

Indoor driving range opens Nov. 15

The Indoor Driving Range opens Tuesday, Nov. 15, in building 1676.

Range hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday from Nov. 15 to April 6, 2017. Customers must use their own golf clubs and balls.

A 60-minute session costs $5, or a 10-session pass is available for $30. Patrons also may purchase a season pass for $50. Participants also may store clubs at the indoor range for $15 per month or $50 for the season.

Passes can be purchased at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122, or at the range (cash only).

The range is open to authorized Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. For more information, call 608-388-2290.


Physical-security meeting set for Nov. 15

The Fort McCoy Physical Security Council Meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 8:30 a.m. in building 1681.

Health Benefits Fair set for Nov. 16

The Health Benefits Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon in building 2187, room 120.

Representatives of health insurance companies will be on hand to answer questions and hand out literature. The 2016 Federal Employees Health Benefits Program open season is Monday, Nov. 14, through Monday, Dec. 12. 2017 rates are available at

Fowl 5k run/walk scheduled for Nov. 16

The Fowl 5k run/walk is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The fastest male and female runners will earn prizes. Walkers may participate in a 2-mile loop. The event costs $15, and the first 25 to register will be given T-shirts.

The event is open to eligible Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. Registration is required by 11 a.m. Nov. 16.

Auto Skills Center hosts 'Winterwise' workshop

The Automotive Skills Center, building 1793, is hosting a "Winterwise" auto workshop Friday, Nov. 18.

Staff members will be on hand during the workshop to help participants prepare their vehicles for wintry weather.

Workshop hours are 1:30 to 9 p.m. Participants may come at any time during these hours but should allow about 1 1/2 hours to complete the checklist.

The workshop is open to anyone eligible to use the Automotive Skills Center. No advance registration is required. There is no extra cost for the workshop, but regular Automotive Skills Center fees apply.

Participants should bring their own oil, oil filters, and window washer fluid if they wish to change them.

Sportsman's Range hosts advanced handgun course

The Patriot Advanced Handgun 1 Course will be offered Saturday, Nov. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range.

The training covers trigger control, reloading, malfunction clearance, clearing garments/holster draw, shooting from a holster, shooting while moving, engaging multiple targets, shooting from cover, use of flashlights in low light, and shooting positions.
At the end of the course, students will shoot a qualification course that incorporates techniques learned in class.

The course costs $115. Registration is required by Thursday, Nov. 17.

Army Community Service hosts wood-shop workshops

Army Community Service (ACS) is planning several wood-shop workshops.

Planned projects and dates include:

• pallet holiday tree — 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, or 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6.

• wooden pens — 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, or 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017.
All materials and instructions are provided at the workshop.

Class sizes are limited, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Earlier start times are available for Families in the Exceptional Family Member Program.

ACS events open to military members, retirees, civilian workers, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

2017 memberships available for Sportsman's Range

Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range is now selling 2017 season passes.

Membership benefits comprise discounts on range events, leagues, and courses; no daily range fees; reduced rental rates; preference on member-designated lanes; reduced fees on federal firearms license transfers; and access to the archery range outside of normal operating hours.

The range will close for the season at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, but group reservations are still accepted for later dates.

ACS offers courses for command readiness

Army Community Service (ACS) can assist commanders in maintaining readiness of individuals, Families, and communities within the Army by developing, coordinating, and delivering services that promote self-reliance, resiliency, and stability during war and peace.

Commanders who would like ACS to facilitate training or conduct a briefing can complete a request form available on the Fort McCoy MWR website,

Allow a minimum of four weeks prior to an event for training to be coordinated.
