Day for Kids scheduled for Sept. 10

Child, Youth and School Services' (CYSS) Day for Kids is set for Saturday, Sept. 10.

A variety of activities — including archery, a dunk tank, and inflatable games — will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the School-Age Center/Youth Center, building 1792. Informational booths about CYSS programs will be set up, and door prizes will be given away. Lunch is available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (while supplies last).

3-gun shoot set for Sept. 16

A three-gun shoot is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at Sportsman's Range.

The competition consists of three courses on the pistol, shotgun, and rifle ranges in four divisions: open, tactical scoped, tactical irons, and heavy metal. A prize will be awarded to the top shooter in each division.

Firearms are available for rent at the range. Rented firearms must use ammunition purchased from Sportsman's Range. Suppressors and short-barreled rifles are not allowed.

Entry fees are $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers before the day of the event, and $30 for nonmembers the day of the event. Register at Sportsman's Range during regular business hours.

'Fall into Fitness' event runs Sept. 19-23 at Rumpel

"Fall into Fitness," an event offering free fitness classes, runs Sept. 19-23 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

'Coping with Difficult People' starts Sept. 20 at ACS

A four-part training series on coping with people with challenging personalities will start Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

Part One: Types of Difficult People is available Tuesday, Sept. 20, or Tuesday, Sept. 27. Registration is required by Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Part Two: Communicating with Difficult People is available Tuesday, Oct 18, or Tuesday, Oct. 25. Registration is required by Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Part Three: Coping Skills is available Tuesday, Nov. 1, or Tuesday, Nov. 15. Registration is required by Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Part Four: Assertive Confrontation Style is available Tuesday, Dec. 6, or Tuesday, Dec. 13. Registration is required by Tuesday, Nov 29.

Commemorative Area open Sept. 23, Oct. 14 to walk-in visitors

The Fort McCoy Commemorative Area will be open for walk-in visitors noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and Friday, Oct. 14. Members of the public are welcome.

The Commemorative Area consists of the Equipment Park, five World War II-era buildings with historical displays, the History Center, and Veterans Memorial Plaza. The History Center and World War II-era buildings contain artifacts dating from Fort McCoy's inception in 1909 up to present day.

Members of the public must stop first at the Visitor Control Center (VCC), building 35, and present valid photo IDs to get a visitor pass. To reach the VCC, take Highway 21 and enter Fort McCoy at the Main Gate. Turn into the VCC parking lot on the right before passing through the Main Gate. 'Sit, Sip, Paint' set for Sept. 23 at McCoy's

A "Sit, Sip, Paint" canvas-painting party is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 23, at 5:30 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The workshop is a step-by-step painting demonstration by artist Linda Oldenburg. Participants will paint a 16-by-20-inch work of art. No artistic ability is required, and all art supplies are provided. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., and painting begins at 6:30 p.m. Wine, beverages, and food will be available to purchase. The workshop costs $35 per person.

Top Sportsman competition planned Sept. 24 at range

The Top Sportsman competition is Saturday, Sept. 24, at 8 a.m. at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range.

Shotgun, rifle, pistol, and 3-D archery events are part of the competition. Both firearms and bows are available to rent. Rented weapons must use ammunition purchased at the range. The registration fee for the competition is $30. Participants may preregister at Sportsman's Range or Pine View Campground or register by 7:45 a.m. the day of the competition at the range.

Hunter-education course starts Sept. 26

Fort McCoy will host the Wisconsin Hunter-Education Course starting Monday, Sept. 26. The course will be taught by a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR)-certified instructor. Successful participants will receive a hunter-education certificate required to purchase a Wisconsin hunting license.

Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1973, must complete a hunter-education course and show the certificate to purchase any hunting license in Wisconsin, unless he or she is hunting under the hunting mentorship program or can show proof of successfully completing basic training in the U.S. armed forces — active duty, reserve, or National Guard.

The course will consist of six classroom sessions and a field day.

Attendance is required at all sessions to receive a hunter-education certificate. The classroom sessions will be Sept. 26, 27, and 29 and Oct. 3, 4, and 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Directorate of Public Works Natural Resources Branch, building 2168. The field day will be Saturday, Oct. 8, from 8 a.m. to noon at Sportsman's Range.

The course is open to military members, Fort McCoy civilian employees, and their dependents. Class size is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is required by Monday, Sept. 12.

A $10 WDNR fee will be collected at the first classroom session. Each student also must provide a WDNR customer number.

Play group scheduled for Sept. 27

Army Community Service's (ACS) "Connect the Tots" play group is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at building 2161.

The play group is designed to help strengthen each child's cognitive, physical, and creative selves and to help promote social-emotional skill building. Additional play groups are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4; Tuesday, Oct. 18; Tuesday, Nov. 8; Tuesday, Nov. 22; and Tuesday, Dec. 6.

FEGLI open season ends Sept. 30

The Federal Employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program is conducting an open season until Friday, Sept. 30.

The FEGLI open season allows eligible employees to enroll in FEGLI or increase coverage up to the program maximum without having a qualifying life event, answering medical questions, or having a physical exam.

Open season coverage becomes effective after one year. New coverage will be effective the first day of the first full pay period that begins on or after Oct. 1, 2017, as long as pay and duty status requirements are met. Employees will not pay premiums until their new coverage is effective.

Employees may enroll or increase coverage by logging into their Employee Benefits Information System account at or by calling 877-276-9287 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
