TSP advisory classes set for June 28, 29

Two classes on the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) are scheduled for 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, and Wednesday, June 29. This class will be instructed by a TSP headquarters representative.

The classes are intended for new and mid-career employees and Soldiers. The class will help explain the various TSP funds, managing TSP accounts, post-service withdrawals, TSP death benefits, and general TSP tips and resources.

The June 28 session is at Army Community Service Family Building (ACS) Family Building, building 2161. The June 29 session is at 88th Regional Support Command, building 60, in conjunction with the pre-retirement briefings.

Registration is required by Monday, June 27. The events are open to military members, retirees, the civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

Trail-camera photo contest starts July 1

The Fort McCoy Sportsman's Range will run a trail-camera photography contest from July 1 to Sept. 1.

Participants may submit their best trail-camera photos for a chance to win prizes, including a Browning Strike Force HD Trail Camera. Photographs are accepted in four categories: deer, predator, turkey, and funny.

Photos must be in original, unedited format and include a time stamp. Photos do not have to be taken at Fort McCoy but must be taken between July 1 and Sept. 1. Winners will be announced Oct. 2.

The contest is open to the public. The entry fee is $10. Register in person at Sportsman's Range during normal business hours.

Red, White & Blue Color Run/Walk scheduled for July 2 at Pine View

The Red, White & Blue 5K Color Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at Pine View Campground.

Participants will travel a scenic route through the campground while being dusted with red, white, and blue powder. Participants are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue but are warned that the powders might stain clothing. The first 50 participants to register will receive free T-shirts.

Prizes will be awarded to the two fastest racers in each of three categories: male, female, and child. Prizes also will be given to the team with the most patriotic attire.

The event is open to the public. Registration costs $15 and is due by 9:30 a.m. July 2.

Participants may register online at or by picking up a registration form and returning it to Pine View Campground or Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Additional activities will be offered at the campground to celebrate Independence Day weekend, including cookie decorating at noon, crafts at 12:30 p.m., and free miniature golf from 1-3 p.m. These activities are free and do not require advance registration.

Try-outs planned July 6 for McCoy Army Ten-Miler team

Try-outs for the Fort McCoy Army Ten-Miler team are scheduled for Wednesday, July 6, starting at 5:30 a.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The race begins at 6 a.m. All Fort McCoy community members are welcome to try out.

The Army Ten-Miler is Sunday, Oct. 9. The race starts and finishes at the Pentagon with a scenic course through Washington, D.C. According to, the mission of the race to promote the Army, build esprit de corps, support Army fitness goals, and enhance community relations. All race proceeds benefit Soldier MWR programs.

Commemorative Area open July 8, 22 to walk-in visitors

The Fort McCoy Commemorative Area will be open for walk-in visitors from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, July 8, and Friday, July 22. Members of the public are welcome.

The Commemorative Area consists of the Equipment Park, five World War II-era buildings with historical displays, the History Center, and Veterans Memorial Plaza. The History Center and World War II-era buildings contain artifacts dating from Fort McCoy's inception in 1909 up to present day.

Members of the public must stop first at the Visitor Control Center (VCC), building 35, and present valid photo IDs to get a visitor's pass. To reach the VCC, take Highway 21 and enter Fort McCoy at the Main Gate. Turn into the VCC parking lot on the right before passing through the Main Gate. For information on visitors' passes, call the VCC at 608-388-4988.

Heavy-metal pistol competition set for July 9 at Sportsman's Range

A heavy-metal pistol match is set for Saturday, July 9, at 10 a.m. at Sportsman's Range.

Shooters will compete in two divisions: tactical irons and open. A prize will be awarded to the winner of each division.

Participants must be at least 18 years old and eligible to use Sportsman's Range. The entry fee is $20; members receive $5 off the entry fee. Registration is required by 9:45 a.m. July 9. For more information, call 608-388-9162.


Feds Feed Families campaign now accepting food donations

The annual Feds Feed Families food drive will take donations until Aug. 31.

Feds Feed Families was designed to help food banks and pantries stay stocked during summer months when they traditionally see a decrease in donations and an increase in need, according to All donations are distributed to local food banks.

Most-wanted items include canned fruits and vegetables, multigrain cereals, grains, canned proteins, soup, 100 percent juice, condiments, snacks, baking goods, hygiene items, paper products, and cleaning supplies.

Donated items can be dropped off at boxes at the following locations: IHG Army Hotels, building 50; the 181st Infantry Brigade, building 714; Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122; the Staff Sgt. Todd R. Cornell Noncommissioned Officer Academy, building 1361; Regional Training Site-Maintenance, building 1370; the Commissary, building 1537; the Exchange, building 1538; McCoy's Community Center, building 1571; the Child Development Center, building 1796; the School-Age Center/Youth Center, building 1792; and Regional Training Site-Medical, building 10000.
