Project affects traffic on Highway 21

A construction project on Highway 21 near Fort McCoy is scheduled to be completed by June 1, weather permitting.

The work includes creating turn lanes with channelized medians for left and right turns on to X Road at Fort McCoy.

When complete, the project will support vehicle convoys accessing Fort McCoy as well as traffic to and from the consolidated mail/freight center planned for construction near Gate 20, said Engineering Division Chief Dan Coburn of the Directorate of Public Works.

Nuvo Construction of Milwaukee is the contractor for the Highway 21 work and has developed and implemented design and traffic-control plans compliant with Wisconsin Department of Transportation policies and procedures.

The highway will remain open throughout the construction period. X Road, however, will be closed during the project's duration. East Maneuver Road will be used as a detour route to access Gate 20.

Motorists are asked to use extra caution and reduce speed when traveling through the construction area.
