Blood drive planned March 28 at McCoy's

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive Monday, March 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

Donors can make appointments in advance or preview eligibility requirements by calling 800-733-2767 or going online to Walk-ins are welcome.


Laundry facilities to reopen April 1

All laundry facilities at Fort McCoy will be open 24/7 beginning Friday, April 1. Facilities are located in buildings 651, 755, 1671, 1735, 1856, 2002, 2568, 2671, 2763, and 2877.

Laundry facilities are for use exclusively by Soldiers training at Fort McCoy pursuant to military orders. Civilians, contractors, and retired military members are not authorized to use these facilities.

STEM Career Club explores computer programming

The April STEM Career Club will focus on computer programming.

On April 1 and 8, youth will learn how to code video-game characters at

The STEM Career Club helps teenagers learn about possible careers and academic requirements in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

The program is open to sixth- through 12th-grade students who are eligible for Child, Youth and School Services (CYSS).

Students who do not regularly attend the After-School Program are welcome to join the activities but must register with CYSS first.

Taste of Art & Wine set for April 1

The third annual Taste of Art & Wine is scheduled for Friday, April 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Whitetail Ridge Ski Area Chalet.

Local artists will exhibit their work, including paintings, sculptures, glasswork, and more. Wine and beer samples, as well as appetizers, will be served.

Tickets cost $12 in advance and $15 the day of the event. The event is open to the public. Tickets to this event are limited.

Tickets can be purchased at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571; Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122; and Pine View Campground.

Sportsman's Range to host open house

Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range will host an open house Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free admission is offered from 9 a.m. to noon, along with signups for door prizes. The door-prize drawing is at noon. Special events, such as a miniature 3-D archery course, novelty shoots, and a tomahawk throw, are scheduled throughout the day. Specials on firearm rentals and annual memberships are offered all day.

The open house kicks off the 2016 season. The range will be open 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Thursday, and Friday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

'Spring into Fitness' challenge begins April 4

A six-week slim-down challenge starts Monday, April 4, at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The man and woman who lose the most inches off their waists between April 4 and May 16 will each win $50 gift cards to a local sporting-goods store. Participants must be measured Monday, April 4, and again Monday, May 16. The winners will be announced at the Wellness Fair on May 18.

There is no fee for the competition. The challenge is open to all eligible fitness center patrons.

Central Vehicle Wash Facility opens April 5

Fort McCoy's Central Vehicle Wash Facility, located on Washrack Road, will reopen for the season Tuesday, April 5. Hours are weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during April.

Starting in May, the facility will be open daily. Staff may open the facility on weekends in April and October as needed. Central Vehicle Wash Facility is for tactical vehicles and equipment only. Privately owned, GSA, and leased vehicles are not allowed at the facility.

Family scrapbooking event scheduled for April 9 at ACS

Army Community Service (ACS) will host its monthly scrapbooking workshop Saturday, April 9 at building 2161.

Materials will be provided to create two scrapbook pages centered on monthly themes. Families that attend three out of the five months will receive a free scrapbook for their pages.

Participants are welcome to bring their own scrapbooks to work on during the event.

The remaining classes are scheduled for May 14, June 11, and July 9. Registration is required the Monday prior to each workshop. Class sizes are limited, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

April Showers 5k set for April 13

The April Showers 5k Run/Walk is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13, at 2:30 p.m. in front of Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1121.

The race is to raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Participants are encouraged to wear blue or teal.

The event is free and open to all authorized Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons.

Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners and the top team. The Commander's Challenge Award will be given to the organization with the most registered participants.

UPL training offered April 18-22 at Fort McCoy

Unit Prevention Leader (UPL) training, offered through the Fort McCoy Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) and 88th Regional Support Command, is scheduled for April 18-22.

The course is required for newly assigned UPLs. Unit UPLs conduct drug-testing collections, provide alcohol and other illicit-drug awareness training, and assist their commanders as subject-matter experts in running and maintaining drug-testing and prevention programs. The course includes training on drugs and alcohol, biochemical testing, and substance-abuse prevention.

Remaining fiscal year 2016 classes are scheduled for June 20-24, July 25-29, and Aug. 15-19.

The classes will be in building 1344 at the ASAP office. Class times will be sent to participants when registering. Soldiers should register at least a week before each class starts, but additional Soldiers will be accepted if space is still available.

Fort McCoy plans May 21 Armed Forces Day Open House

Mark your calendars! Fort McCoy will host its annual Armed Forces Day Open House Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.

The installation's award-winning Commemorative Area will serve as the hub for all activities.

The Equipment Park, Commemorative Area Buildings, History Center, and Veterans Memorial Plaza will be open throughout the day.

Activities include guided installation bus tours, personalized ID tags, camouflage face-painting, an interactive marksmanship gallery, and an obstacle course for children.

A food-and-beverage concession stand will be operating during the event.

Visitors can access the event site via Gate 15 off Wisconsin Highway 21 between Tomah and Sparta. Adult visitors must be prepared to show valid photo identification upon entering.
