DLA Document Services temporarily closes on post

Defense Logistic Agency Document Services at Fort McCoy temporarily closed July 9.

Operations will resume as soon as possible. In the meantime, printing orders are being processed at the Rock Island, Ill., location and shipped, free of charge, to Fort McCoy.

3-D archery contest scheduled July 11 at Sportsman's Range

A 3-D archery competition is set for Saturday, July 11, at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range.

Participants can shoot the course anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The competition is for all skill levels and open to the public.

Prizes will be awarded to the novelty-shoot and competition winners. Participants do not need to be present at the end of the competition to win.

5-stand shotgun contest July 11 at Sportsman's Range

A five-stand shotgun competition is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range.

The competition is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will shoot five birds from five stations and go through the course twice. A prize will be awarded to the top shooter.

The competition is open to the public. Participants must be at least 12 years old, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The registration fee is $35 for members and $40 for nonmembers. Register at the range the day of the shoot.

Kickball tournament scheduled July 16 at fitness center

A kickball tournament is planned for Thursday, July 16, at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The tournament kicks off at 4:30 p.m. Co-ed, five-person teams will play seven-inning games. Prizes will be awarded to the
first-place team.

There is no registration fee. Register by Wednesday, July 15, at the fitness center or at The tournament is open to all authorized MWR patrons who are at least 18 years old.

SHARP refresher courses set for fiscal year

Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Annual Refresher Training will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16; Thursday, Aug. 20; and Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

The training describes the effects of sexual harassment and sexual assault, examines prevention strategies, and discusses Department of Defense sexual-assault statistics and reporting.

SHARP annual refresher training is mandatory for Soldiers and DA civilians and must be completed by Sept. 30. Registration for the course is required and must be completed by the Monday before the desired class.

Paintball tournament set for July 18

Fort McCoy's Tactics Paintball and Laser Tag facility will host a paintball tournament Saturday, July 18, at 9:15 a.m.

The tournament is open to the public. Players must be at least 10 years old and will compete in three-person teams. The tournament is double elimination — teams must win two out of three matches.

The registration fee is $30 per team plus the cost of paintballs. Equipment rental will be available. Player-owned paintball guns are allowed.

Prizes will be awarded to members of the top two teams. Register online at, or return a completed registration form to Pine View Campground.

'Run, Splash, Lift' challenge starts July 20, ends Sept. 28

Rumpel Fitness Center is conducting a "Run, Splash, Lift" challenge starting Monday, July 20.

Participants are challenged to run 26.2 miles, swim 2.4 miles, and lift a total of 10,000 pounds during a two-month span ending Sept. 28.

Cards can be picked up at the fitness center, building 1122, starting July 20. Participants should document their progress on their cards and turn them into the fitness center upon completion. This a noncompetitive event.

'Lego Architect' competition planned at Recreation Center

Young architects and engineers can share their creations during the "Lego Architect" contest at the Recreation Center, building 2000.

The contest is open to children age 17 and under. Entries can be a maximum of 2 feet by 2 feet. No kit builds are allowed. Entries can be dropped off Wednesday, July 22. Judging will take place Thursday, July 23, from noon to 6 p.m. There is no fee. The first-place winner will receive a prize.

3-gun shooting contest July 25 at Sportsman's Range

A three-gun shooting competition will be held Saturday, July 25, at 10 a.m. at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range.

Participants will shoot three courses of fire. Each stage will be judged on speed and accuracy. Prizes will be awarded to the top finisher in each of the following categories: open, tactical scoped, tactical irons, and heavy metal.

The event is open to all authorized users of the facility. The entry fee is $20 for nonmembers or $15 for members. Register at Sportsman's Range or at Pine View Campground, building 8053.

Shotguns, rifles, and pistols are available for rent at the range. Rented firearms must use ammunition purchased at the range.

Retirement-planning class set for July 28 at ACS

A retirement-planning class is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, for 8 to 10 a.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

The class provides attendees with an informational road map for retirement goals. It will cover investment strategies, what to do with TSP accounts after leaving federal service, and how to make the most of earned entitlements.

The class is open to military members, retirees, civilian employees, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers. Registration is required by Monday, July 27. To register, call 608-388-3540/3505.


Hawaiian luau planned July 29 at McCoy's Community Club

A Hawaiian luau-themed event is planned for Wednesday, July 29, at McCoy's Community Club, building 1571.

Book Club meets July 30 at Recreation Center

The Book Club's selection for the month of July is "The Bridge over the River Kwai" by Pierre Boulle.

Eligible Recreation Center patrons are encouraged to read each month's book and meet at the Recreation Center for a discussion. The Recreation Center does not provide copies of each month's book. Meetings are at 6 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month. July's meeting is Thursday, July 30.

2015 Army Arts and Crafts Contest taking submissions through July 31

The 2015 Army Arts and Crafts Contest will accept submissions from June 1 to July 31.

The contest is open to both novice and accomplished artists. Up to three submissions per artist will be accepted in each of 10 categories: ceramic art, digital art, drawings, fiber art, glass art, metal art, 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, paintings, and wood art. All submissions must be original work completed after July 1, 2014.

The contest is open to all authorized Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons, excluding Army Arts and Crafts employees.
