Snake survey

Wildlife Biologist Tim Wilder of the Directorate of Public Works Natural Resources Branch places a microchip in a 4-foot bull snake April 14 while volunteer John Polk holds the snake.

The work was part of a survey Wilder is conducting to determine the health of bull snakes on Fort McCoy. As part of the survey, Wilder checks length, weight, and age, and implants a microchip used to identify the snake in future surveys. The largest bull snake Wilder has measured in previous surveys was more than 6 feet long.
