Clothing, toy, food drive underway at Fort McCoy

A clothing, toy and food drive is underway through Dec. 18 at Fort McCoy.

Clothing for adults and children and toys should be new or gently used. Food should be non-perishable. All items will be donated to Tomah and Sparta shelters.

Drop-off locations are the Installation Legal Office, building 1644; Public Safety Center, building 1681; the 88th Regional Support Command break room, building 60; the Noncommissioned Officer Academy, building 1361; and the 181st Infantry Brigade, building 714.

December bowling specials offered at Thunder Bowl

Thunder Bowl Bowling Center, located inside of McCoy's Community Club, building 1571, is offering specials in December.

"2-Fer" Wednesdays special includes shoe rentals, games and a hot dog and French fries combo for $2 each.

"Dollar Days" will be offered each Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Games and shoe rentals are $1 each. Bowlers also will receive $1 off select food items.

Thunder Bowl offers eight bowling lanes, automatic scoring, bumper bowling and state-of-the-art equipment.

Registration underway for volleyball, basketball leagues

Registration for Fort McCoy's volleyball and basketball leagues is underway. League play is held at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The leagues are free and open to all authorized fitness center patrons who are at least 16 years old. Patrons can sign up as individuals or teams. A minimum of four teams are required for each league.

The volleyball league will play Wednesdays, starting Jan. 7, at 5:15, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m.

The basketball league will play Tuesdays, starting Jan. 6, at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Whitetail Ridge Ski Area opens Dec. 19, weather permitting

Whitetail Ridge Ski Area is scheduled to open Friday, Dec. 19, weather permitting. Whitetail Ridge is open to the public.

Normal hours of operation will be Friday, 4:30 to 9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. The ski area also will have extended holiday and school-closure hours. Early bird season passes are on sale through Dec. 22.

Season passes are available for individual/Family facility use, and cross-country and downhill ski equipment rental. Passes can be purchased at the Pine View Campground Office, building 8053, and at Central Registration, building 1668.

Action Video Challenge at Whitetail Ridge Dec. 20-31

Fort McCoy's Whitetail Ridge Ski Area is holding an Action Video Challenge Dec. 20-31. The challenge is free and open to the public.

Participants will capture a snowboarding or skiing video taken at the ski hill and post it to Whitetail Ridge's Facebook page at for a chance to win a $50 House Boardshop gift certificate.

Videos must be posted by midnight Wednesday, Dec. 31.

A panel of Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) judges will review the videos and choose a winner.

Christmas Mass set for Dec. 25 at Chapel 10

Christmas Mass will be held at Fort McCoy Thursday, Dec. 25 at 9 a.m. at Chapel 10, building 1759.

Regular Roman Catholic Mass is held Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in Chapel 10.

Pine View Campground to begin accepting reservations for 2016

Fort McCoy's Pine View Campground will begin accepting reservations for 2016 on Friday, Dec. 26 for customers who are military ID card holders. Reservations will be accepted for all others beginning Jan. 2.

Reservations can be made by calling 608-388-3517. Online reservations will be available Jan. 2 using the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Webtrac site,

First-time users will need to establish an account user name and password by calling 800-531-4703 or 608-388-3517, or by emailing

After the account is set up, log in to make reservations, print receipts, reserve equipment and more.

Reservations made via the Web require full payment at the time of reservation. Phone reservations require a deposit of 50 percent.

Full payment must be received within 10 days of making a reservation or the site will be released.


Fitness center pricing effective Jan. 5

The Rumpel Fitness Center's new pricing structure will become effective Jan. 5.

Fitness classes will be $3 per class or $30 for an unlimited monthly fitness class card.

The cards will be sold at the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Central Registration Office (CRO) and the fitness center, building 1122, starting Jan. 5.

Personal training fees will be $20 an hour for military personnel and $30 an hour for civilians. The personal training fee will be waived for military personnel who are not in compliance with Field Manual 7-22 and/or Army Regulation 600-9, and, have a commander's letter placing them on the Army Weight Control Program and a body fat worksheet (Department of the Army Forms 5500 or 5501).

A two-hour pool party for 15 people is $75. This includes room rental and pool time.

'Parenting with Love and Logic' training begins in January

"Parenting with Love and Logic" training will begin in January at Fort McCoy. Classes will be held from 8:15 a.m. to noon at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Love and Logic is a philosophy founded in 1977 by Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline, M.D. It is the approach of choice among leading educators, parents and other professionals worldwide.

Modules one and two will be held Jan. 7; modules three and four, Jan. 21; and modules five and six, Feb. 4.

The course will help parents raise children who are self-confident, motivated and ready for the real world with this win-win approach to parenting.

Children will win because they'll learn to solve their own problems while gaining the confidence they need to meet life's challenges. Parents win because they will establish healthy control without resorting to anger, threats, nagging or exhausting power struggles.

Financial Peace course begins at Fort McCoy Jan. 8

The Religious Support Office will offer the Financial Peace University course Thursdays at Fort McCoy starting Jan. 8.

The 13-week course will be held from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at the Fort McCoy Chapel Center, building 2675.

Produced by financial expert Dave Ramsey, the course will teach participants the principles of financial management from a spiritual resiliency perspective.

The course is available to military personnel, Department of Army civilians and Family members who have not taken the course at Fort McCoy.
