Women's Equality Day observance activities Aug. 28

A Women's Equality Day observance and archery demonstration will be held Aug. 28. The observance is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McCoy's Community Club, building 1571, and the archery demonstration is at 3:30 p.m. at Sportsman's Range.

The event guest, Karen Butler, is the founder and president of Shoot Like a Girl, a company dedicated to growing the number of women who participate in shooting sports by empowering them with confidence.

Butler launched Shoot Like A Girl in February 2009 and was honored by Outdoor Life Magazine's 2011 Top 25: Leaders in Hunting, Fishing and Conservation. She also is a member of Team Elk, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's television show. To date, she has put bows in the hands of more than 3,200 women across the country. Nearly half of these women never had shot a bow before being introduced to archery by Shoot Like A Girl. Butler is a hunting advocate who continues to promote ethical hunting.

The luncheon presentation is open to the entire Fort McCoy community. The archery demonstration is geared toward female military personnel and Department of Defense civilians, however, males are welcome.
