Sand volleyball tournament set for May 30 at McCoy CAC

A sand volleyball tournament will be held Friday, May 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Activity Center (CAC), building 2000.

The tournament is open to authorized CAC patrons.

Teams of six players (minimum of four players) must win two out of three games to advance to the next round. Prizes will be awarded to the top two teams.

June 3, 19: Parent workshop to explore 'tween' stage of children

The workshop "10 Going On 16! Where Did My Baby Go?" will be held June 3 and June 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the South Post Community Center, 6158 H Circle.

Participants will explore the "tween" period of child development where children are not as dependent upon their parents and yet not quite ready to take on independence.

The presenter, Jerry Nelson, is a licensed marriage and Family therapist with a private practice in La Crosse, Wis. He specializes in marital and Family relationships, as well as individual counseling. Nelson consulted for more than seven years through a Department of Defense contract as a Military Family Life Counselor, and most recently as the Regional Director of Psychological Health for the 88th Regional Support Command.

McCoy to participate in state Free Fishing Weekend June 7-8

Fort McCoy will participate in Wisconsin's Free Fishing Weekend, June 7-8.

No permits or licenses will be required to fish on Fort McCoy waters during this weekend only.

All Fort McCoy and State of Wisconsin fishing regulations, rules, length and bag limits still will be in effect.

Anglers must call the game line at 866-277-1597 or access the i-Sportsman website at for information on lake closures due to military training for that day.

Fort McCoy fishing regulations and maps are available on post at Pine View Campground, building, 8053; the Permit Sales Office, building 2168; the Hunter Information Point, and the Exchange, building 1538, and off post at Schnitzler's (Sparta), Walmart (Sparta and Tomah) and Roscoe's (Tomah).

Supervisor Academy June sessions to focus on task delegation

The Supervisor Academy theme for June is "Delegate That Task" and will be offered Tuesday, June 10 at 8 a.m. at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Through group activity and discussion, participants will examine how to delegate a series of tasks to get the right balance and think about what is appropriate in different situations.

The Supervisor Academy is provided by ACS and the Fort McCoy Directorate of Human Resources. It gives new and experienced military or civilian supervisors the opportunity to attend a 60- to 90-minute training session each month to learn new skills, improve existing skills and develop a supervisor's tool box. The academy training also presents attendees with peer support and feedback.

Non-appropriated fund items to be sold June 11 at McCoy

A cash-and-carry sale of non-appropriated fund items will be held Wednesday, June 11 at building 1560.

The sale opens at 8 a.m. to military personnel and military retirees with a valid ID, and at 9 a.m. to the general public. The sale ends at 3 p.m.

Sale items include restaurant equipment, bed linens, towels, disc jockey lighting equipment, garbage cans, half tables, toys and much more.

Items are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, must be paid for by cash or check and must be picked up at the time of purchase.

June 12: 'The Power of Two: Revitalizing the Spark!'

The workshop "The Power of Two: Revitalizing the Spark!," will be held Thursday, June 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. at McCoy's Community Club, building 1571.

Couples looking for an opportunity to make a profound difference in their relationship and who want to revitalize the spark between them will learn strategies on what they can do to have more closeness, intimacy and fun together, as well as have the opportunity to incorporate and fortify these skills and strategies into their relationship repertoire.

Couples are encouraged to attend together, however, individuals may attend.

Presenters will be Jeanne Herzog, Ph.D and licensed psychologist, and Dan Benavides, a licensed clinical social worker.

Battle of the Mud run set for June 14 at Whitetail

Fort McCoy's "Battle of the Mud" mud run is Saturday, June 14 at Whitetail Ridge Ski Area. The adult run starts at 10 a.m. with heats every 15 minutes. The children's race, with a shorter course, begins at 9 a.m.

The course is 3 1/2 miles long and includes 12 obstacles. Music, games and concessions will be available during the event.

Pre-registration fees are $20 for military personnel and Department of Defense civilians, $25 for the general public and $10 for children 12 years old and younger. An additional $10 fee will be charged to participants who register the day of the event.

Registered participants will receive a T-shirt, drink ticket and door-prize entry. Register by May 26 to guarantee T-shirt size request.

3-D Archery Shoot competition June 15 at Sportsman's Range

A 3-D Archery Shoot competition is set for Sunday, June 15 at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range. Participants can shoot anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The competition is for all skill levels and the public.

The 3-D range course has been updated and includes 29 new targets. Prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place winners in each division. Participants do not need to be present to win.

Registration fees are $8 for adults (16 years old and older) and $5 for youth, plus the daily range fee, if applicable. Bows are available for rent at the range. For more information, call 608-388-9162 or visit the website


'Selling on eBay' class set for June 16

The class "Selling On eBay: Beyond the Basics" will be offered Monday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

The class, for experienced eBay sellers who want to take sales to a higher level, will teachhow to start an eBay business, find merchandise to sell, develop a business strategy, create professional-looking listings, and more. Joel Karsten, an eBay-certified education specialist, is the teacher.
