Emergency management exercise set for Feb. 12

Fort McCoy will conduct an emergency management exercise starting at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The exercise, Vigilant Triad 2014, is part of a continuing effort by the Department of Defense to refine and improve emergency response to natural and man-made incidents.

Disasters such as the Fort Hood, Texas, shooting, the large tornado at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and the hurricane damage to military facilities along the East Coast in recent years continue to show the importance of practicing emergency response.

Various scenarios will be conducted in the training, cantonment and housing areas to test our capabilities and allow evaluators to critique performance.

During the course of the exercise, Fort McCoy personnel and residents may expect changes to traffic patterns, closed roads and other delays in the cantonment area.

Personnel and residents may also hear "giant voice" announcements, as well as receive email alerts concerning the installation.
