Lending Closet available at Fort McCoy

If you're arriving at Fort McCoy or leaving for your next assignment, there's no need to worry if you find yourself without your household goods.

The Army Community Service (ACS) Lending Closet is a perfect example of ACS fulfilling its motto, "Real-Life Solutions for Successful Army Living," said Ann Wermer, Fort McCoy's ACS Relocation Readiness manager.

The Fort McCoy ACS Center has a multitude of household items that eligible patrons can borrow for up to 30 days.

Items available are tables, chairs, and air mattresses so customers don't have to eat or sleep on the floor, Wermer said.

Dish packs, as well as toasters, blenders, microwaves, crock pots and other items can make cooking easier.

Vacuums are available to help tidy up the house, and irons and ironing boards will help keep customers looking tidy.

The Lending Closet also has items for infants, such as high chairs and pack n' plays to help keep day-to-day life as normal as possible for them during this hectic time.

"All you need is a copy of your orders or ID card," Wermer said. "The Lending Closet will do the rest."
Fred M. Williams III of the installation's Network Enterprise Center said the Lending Closet came in handy during his permanent change of station move from Fort Gordon, Ga., to Fort McCoy in September.

"When I came here, I didn't have anything," Williams said. "And then my household goods took what seemed like forever to get here."

Williams learned through his supervisor and the Newcomer Orientation that Fort McCoy had a Lending Closet so he decided to check it out. He borrowed an iron and ironing board, air mattresses, and a vacuum cleaner.

"I walked in the door, and Ann got me what I needed within five minutes," he said. "The items were almost like new, and the best part is I didn't have to buy them."

The items were available for 30 days, but he returned them about two weeks later and had no problems, Williams said.

"It was a good experience," Williams said. "I'd recommend to anyone else in a similar circumstance to check out the items they need from the Lending Closet."

ACS is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
