Veterans Benefit Expo set for Sept. 6 at Fort McCoy

A Veterans Benefit Expo to offer one-stop support to veterans and Family members will be held from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at the Wisconsin Military Academy, building 90. Admission is free.

Brian Jones of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs said the event is being held in conjunction with the Fort McCoy Retiree Appreciation Day, also scheduled for Sept. 6.

The expo will allow veterans to learn about eligibility criteria for state veterans benefits, programs and services; apply for state and federal benefits; receive information about grants, educational benefits and employment opportunities; get assistance to obtain military medals and records; obtain information about assisted living and nursing home care; and to preregister for burial in state veterans cemeteries.

Family members of veterans and servicemembers, including deployed servicemembers, are encouraged to attend, Jones said. The Fort McCoy expo is one of 10 scheduled statewide, Jones said. The next expo is scheduled for Rhinelander Sept. 14.

Preregistration for veterans, servicemembers and Family members is not required. Vendors who wish to provide information at the expo are requested to fill out a registration form, he said.

Information, including expo schedules and registration forms, is available at the website or by sending an e-mail to Jones can be reached at 608-267-1797.
