Post Office requires 11 a.m. drop off for same day dispatch

Outgoing mail must be dropped off at the Fort McCoy U.S. Post Office, building 1654, by 11 a.m. for same day dispatching. Mail dropped off after 11 a.m. will be sent out the next business day.

The change has occurred due to the La Crosse U.S. Postal Service processing center changing the acceptance time for outgoing mail. Mail from Fort McCoy must be dispatched by noon in order to make the acceptance time.

Mail must be organized by type and size, and bundled prior to being taken to La Crosse.

The Fort McCoy office offers first-class, standard, priority, express, registered, certified, and insured mail and flat-rate boxes.

The office accepts only cash or checks.

CAC tournaments offered throughout August

The Community Activity Center, building 2000, will host tournaments in August. Play begins at 6 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Tournaments include sand volleyball Saturdays, Aug. 10 and 24 at 5 p.m.; bean bags Wednesday, Aug. 7; 501 Darts Friday, Aug. 9; foosball Friday, Aug. 16; shuffleboard Friday, Aug. 23 and pingpong Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Poker League will play Thursdays at 5 p.m.

Registration for events will be accepted until one hour before the start of an event. The tournaments are open to servicemembers, Department of Defense civilians and their Family members.

Haunted Trails night offered at Pine View Aug. 3

Fort McCoy's Pine View Campground will have a Haunted Trails night Saturday, Aug. 3. Activities are free and open to the public.

A bonfire and s'mores will begin at 8 p.m. and the haunted trails will open at dark, approximately 9 p.m. Parents are cautioned that the trails are scary and may not be appropriate for all ages.

Activities for campers will be offered throughout the weekend including a costume contest, trick or treating and a campsite decoration contest.


Supervisor Academy training set for Aug. 6, 21

Supervisor Academy training for August will be "The New Team Leader." Participants can choose between training sessions offered Aug. 6 at 8 a.m. or Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Participants will work in small groups to determine the leadership strengths and weaknesses of a manager in a case study example. The groups will present their conclusions to the entire class, and use the case to assess their own performance as leaders.

Individuals will develop an understanding of some of the key leader skills, including initiating, decision-making, controlling, communicating, delegating, and motivating.

The Supervisor Academy is provided by ACS and the Fort McCoy Directorate of Human Resources.

It gives new and experienced supervisors the opportunity to attend a 60- to 90-minute training session each month to learn new skills, improve existing skills and develop a supervisor's tool box.

Newcomers Orientation set for Wednesday, Aug. 7

The next Newcomers Orientation is set for Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 8:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

Tickets available for Aug. 14 concert at Fort McCoy

Tickets are available for Fort McCoy's Aug. 14 concert featuring Styx, 38 Special and Grand Funk Railroad at Constitution Park.

The concert is presented by U.S. Army Entertainment and Fort McCoy's Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

Tickets are $30 and are available for purchase at Ace Hardware in Tomah and La Crosse; Market Bar, Sparta; and on post at McCoy's, building 1571; Pine View Campground, building 8053; and the Community Activity Center, building 2000.

Tickets will be $35 the day of the concert. Tickets are subject to availability.

Volunteers needed for Aug. 14 concert

Volunteers are needed for Fort McCoy's, featuring Styx, 38 Special and Grand Funk Railroad, Wednesday, Aug. 14 at Fort McCoy's Constitution Park.

Volunteer positions include will call, clean up, parking, ticket sales, ticket collection, wristbanding, and beverage service.

Volunteers will receive a T-shirt and an invitation to Volunteer Recognition Night.

11:30 a.m. Mass set for Aug. 15 at Chapel 10

An Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mass will be held Thursday, Aug. 15 at 11:30 a.m. at Chapel 10, building 1759.

Regular Catholic Mass is offered Sundays at 9:30 a.m. at Chapel 10.

Financial Management class to focus on budgets

Part two of the class Financial Management 101 will be held Thursday, Aug. 22 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

This portion of the three-part series will cover financial budgets. Participants will learn how to develop short- and long-term goals, budget format and planning, and determine military permanent change of station moving expenses. The class will also cover whether participants should buy or rent a home based on their budget and how to determine their overall net worth.

Love Languages seminar presented Aug. 27 at McCoy's

A "Discovering the Love Languages in Your Relationship" seminar will be presented to members of the Fort McCoy community Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 5 to 9 p.m. at McCoy's, building 1571.

By better understanding each other, couples can learn how to constructively communicate about tough and sensitive topics.

Participants also will receive tips and strategies on what they can do differently to have more closeness, intimacy and fun together.

Participants can attend as a couple or individually. The seminar will be presented by Dan Benavides, a licensed clinical social worker.
