NFL Pick 'em League starts Sept. 8

Fort McCoy is hosting an NFL Pick 'em League competition, which will run Sept. 8 to Feb. 5, 2018.

Points are awarded for selecting the winning teams each week. A prize will be awarded to the overall winner.

Participants must create an account on www.nfl.com. Under the "Fantasy" menu, select "Weekly Pick 'em." Click on "Groups," search for "Fort McCoy," and select the "Fort McCoy Pick 'em League." Enter the password "FortMcCoy" to join the league.

Post Commemorative Area open to walk-in visitors Sept. 8, 22

The Fort McCoy Commemorative Area will be open for walk-in visitors from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 and noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 22. Members of the public are welcome.

The Commemorative Area consists of the Equipment Park, five World War II-era buildings with historical displays, the History Center, and Veterans Memorial Plaza. The History Center and World War II-era buildings contain artifacts dating from Fort McCoy's inception in 1909 up to present day.

Members of the public must present valid photo IDs at the Main Gate to get a visitor's pass. For information on visitors' passes, call the Visitor Control Center at 608-388-4988.

Groups of 15 or more may schedule tours from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays

'Art Attack' nights scheduled at USO

USO Fort McCoy will host Art Attack, an arts-and-crafts event, from 6 to 8 p.m. the second Saturday of each month through the end of the year at building 1501.

Each month has a different theme. Coloring books for both adults and children will also be available, or participants may bring their own projects. The event is free to attend, but advance registration is required.

Upcoming dates are Sept. 9, Oct. 14, Nov. 11, and Dec. 9.

USO events and services are open to active military members, military retirees with IDs, and their legal dependents.

Road Kill 5k set for Sept. 13

The Road Kill 5k is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Sept. 13.

The race starts at Rumpel Fitness Center, then heads out Gate 20 and uphill. It ends back at the fitness center.

Prizes will be awarded to the first- and second-place male and female finishers. The first 25 registered participants will receive T-shirts.

The race costs $15 and is open to all eligible Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons.

Work-life balance course scheduled for Sept. 14

"Balancing Work, Life and Command" is scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. Sept. 14 at Army Community Service, building 2111.

The class will cover the differences between healthy and unhealthy stress, sleep cycles, and the importance of having fun. Participants will discuss their unique stressors and ways to manage them.

The class is open to military members, retirees, civilian workers, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers. Registration is required by Sept. 11.

Day for Kids scheduled for Sept. 16

Fort McCoy's Day for Kids is scheduled for Sept. 16.

The Kids' Color Run starts at 9 a.m. at Constitution Park. Registration is required by Sept. 12.

Activities at the School-Age Center/Youth Center, building 1792, will follow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature games, a DJ, popcorn and snow cones, informational booths, and door prizes. Lunch is available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or while supplies last. No registration is required for this part of the event.

'Connect the Tots' play group meets Sept. 19, 26

The 'Connect the Tots' play group will meet 9:30 to 11 a.m. Sept. 19 and 26 at Army Community Service Family Building in building 2161.

The play groups are for children 5 years old or younger. Through play, transitions, circle time, songs, activities, and informal conversations, parents learn about developmental ages and stages, gain tools to help understand their children's behavior, and become empowered to prepare the Family and children to enter school ready to learn.

ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.
Additional play groups are scheduled for Oct. 7, 10, and 14; Nov. 7, 14, and 28; and Dec. 5 and 12.

USO STEM challenges planned monthly this fall

USO Fort McCoy will hold STEM challenges for children ages 5 to 12 every month this fall.

The hour-long activities will start at 6 p.m. Sept. 20, Oct. 25, Nov. 15, and Dec. 20 at building 1501. The activities are designed to teach children about science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields and how they can change the world. There is no cost, but advance registration is required because seating is limited.

'Build a Bird Feeder' scheduled for Sept. 21, 30

"Build a Bird Feeder" workshops are scheduled for Sept. 21 and 30 at the Army Community Service Family Building in building 2161.

The workshop is intended as a Family resilience and bonding activity. Each member of the Family can create an individualized bird feeder and decorate it by painting. Participants also may use decoupage to decorate their feeders but should bring any logos or pictures they wish to use with them. Singles and geographical bachelors are also welcome.

All materials and instructions are supplied. Class size is limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The workshop is open 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 21 and 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 30. Exceptional Family Member Program participants may start one hour earlier than the scheduled start time.

Fort McCoy trapping application available online, due Sept. 25

The 2017 Fort McCoy trapping application is now available on the installation's i-Sportsman website at https://ftmccoy.isportsman.net. The deadline to submit trapping applications is Sept. 25.

People interested in submitting an application must log in to their iSportsman account and click on "Acquire Permits" to access the application. Applicants must then remember to "Check Out" and "Confirm" their order to submit the application.

Signups now available for fall bowling leagues

Signups are available for fall bowling leagues at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

Teams need at least four people, but substitutes are allowed. Individual bowlers may also sign up and be matched to any teams with vacancies. Matches will be held Tuesday evenings starting Oct. 3. A league meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 12.
