Family crafting workshop scheduled for Aug. 5

A Crafting Resilience Workshop is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 5 at Army Community Service's Family Workshop Center, building 2161.

Supplies are provided for a number of activities, including scrapbooking, stamping, card making, canvas painting, and no-sew quilt blocks. Some items have limited supplies. Family members also may bring their own projects.

Exceptional Family Member Program members can begin at 8:30 a.m. Families can register for two- to four-hour blocks of time.
Registration is required by the Monday before a workshop.

Class size is limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Army Community Service events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workers, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

'Connect the Tots' play group scheduled for Aug. 8, 22

The 'Connect the Tots' play group will meet 9:30 to 11 a.m. Aug. 8 and 22 at South Post Patriot Park.

The play groups are for children 5 years old or younger.

Through play, transitions, circle time, songs, activities, and informal conversations, parents learn about developmental ages and stages, gain tools to help understand their children's behavior, and become empowered to prepare the Family and children to enter school ready to learn.

ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

Training dates available for 2017 SHARP courses

Dates have been set for fiscal year 2017 Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention, or SHARP, refresher courses.

Overview training will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 10 and 23 and Sept. 6.

The training describes the effects of sexual harassment and sexual assault, examines prevention strategies, and discusses Department of Defense sexual-assault statistics and reporting. All classes will be at Army Community Service, building 2111.

SHARP annual refresher training is mandatory and must be completed by Sept. 30. Advance registration is required.
Unit or directorate training is available upon request.

Commemorative Area open to walk-in visitors Aug. 11, 25

The Fort McCoy Commemorative Area will be open for walk-in visitors from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 11 and 25. Members of the public are welcome.

The Commemorative Area consists of the Equipment Park, five World War II-era buildings with historical displays, the History Center, and Veterans Memorial Plaza. The History Center and World War II-era buildings contain artifacts dating from Fort McCoy's inception in 1909 up to present day.

Members of the public must present valid photo IDs at the Main Gate to get a visitor's pass. For information on visitors' passes, call the Visitor Control Center at 608-388-4988.

Groups of 15 or more may schedule tours from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Army Concert featuring Toby Keith scheduled for Aug. 12

The annual Army Concert featuring headliner Toby Keith is scheduled for 4 p.m. Aug. 12 at Constitution Park .

Opening act Waterloo Revival and special guest Cassadee Pope will also play at the concert.

Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 the day of the show. Tickets can be purchased on post at ine View Campground or McCoy's Community Center. They are also avilable online at mccoy.armymw.com and in person at Foxhole Pub and Market Bar in Sparta, Ace Hardware in Tomah and La Crosse, and Festival Foods in Onalaska.

The concert is open to the public. Volunteers are still needed for the day of the concert and cleanup the next day.

Troop Olympics set for Aug. 16 at Rumpel Fitness Center

Troop Olymps is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Teams will compete in a number of events, earning points. The team with the most points at the end of the event wins.
Teams will pick two members to compete in each event. A female team member must participate in at least of the events.

Some of the events in Troop Olympics will include tug of war, basketball shoot, relay race, sumo challenge, base run, flying disc toss, and balloon shoot.

Registration is required by Aug. 15. The event is open to eligible Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons.

Commissary 'Back to School' sale set for Aug. 18-19

A "Back to School" sidewalk sale is scheduled for Aug. 18-19 at the Fort McCoy Commissary.

The sale will feature items suitable for healthful Family breakfasts, packed school lunches, and after-school snacks that children can prepare themselves. The "Back to School" sales event will occur in lieu of the fall Customer Appreciation Case Lot Sale.

The commissary will also have product promotions for the start of the school year.

Madison Family trip scheduled for Aug. 19

Spend time as a Family in Madison on Aug. 19 and leave the driving to Army Community Service.

The bus will pick up and drop off passengers at Capital Square. The Madison Children's Museum, Wisconsin Veterans Museum, and Dane County Farmers Market, in addition to a number of shops and restaurants, are within walking distance.

Families will get lunch on their own.

There is no admission fee for the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. The Madison Children's Museum is a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission to active-duty military personnel from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The bus will depart Army Community Service at 7:30 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. Meet at building 2111 by 7 a.m.

Bubble soccer set for Aug. 23 at fitness center

Bubble soccer is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Teams are co-ed (four men and two women on each). Players will wear inflatable bubbles around their torsos. Registration is required by Aug. 21. The event is open to eligible Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons.

Women's Equality Day event scheduled for Aug. 24

The Women's Equality Day observance is scheduled for noon Aug. 24 at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The guest speaker is Hester Moore, a historical re-enactor and professional speaker.
