Post Commemorative Area open to walk-in visitors July 14, 28

The Fort McCoy Commemorative Area will be open for walk-in visitors from noon to 4 p.m. July 14 and 28. Members of the public are welcome.

The Commemorative Area consists of the Equipment Park, five World War II-era buildings with historical displays, the History Center, and Veterans Memorial Plaza. The History Center and World War II-era buildings contain artifacts dating from Fort McCoy's inception in 1909 up to present day.

Members of the public must present valid photo IDs at the Main Gate to get a visitor's pass. For information on visitors' passes, call the Visitor Control Center at 608-388-4988.

Groups of 15 or more may schedule tours from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Job Search Strategies offered July 19 at ACS

A class covering better ways to search for jobs and careers will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. July 19 at Army Community Service, building 2111.

The class covers ways to establish career goals, methods of researching the job market, identifying the most effective job-search methods, and creating a plan for job research.

Army Community Service events are open to military members, retirees, civilian employees, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

Dodgeball tournament set for July 19 at fitness center

A dodgeball tournament is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. July 19 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Each team needs five people. Teams will play a best-of-three series. Winners will receive a trophy and pizza.

Training dates available for 2017 SHARP courses

Dates have been set for fiscal year 2017 Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention, or SHARP, refresher courses.
Overview training will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. July 20, Aug. 10 and 23, and Sept. 6 and 12.

The training describes the effects of sexual harassment and sexual assault, examines prevention strategies, and discusses Department of Defense sexual-assault statistics and reporting.

All classes will be at Army Community Service, building 2111.

SHARP annual refresher training is mandatory and must be completed by Sept. 30. Advance registration is required. Unit or directorate training is available upon request.

'Connect the Tots' play group scheduled for July 25

The 'Connect the Tots' play group will meet 9:30 to 11 a.m. July 25 at South Post Patriot Park.

The play groups are for parents with children 5 years old or younger.

Through play, transitions, circle time, songs, activities, and informal conversations, parents learn about developmental ages and stages, gain tools to help understand their children's behavior, and become empowered to prepare the Family and children to enter school ready to learn.

ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

Additional play groups are planned for Aug. 8 and 22.

Laundry-basket softball scheduled for July 25

A laundry-basket softball tournament is scheduled for 4 p.m. July 25 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

This will be a one-pitch tournament. Players will have to hit the ball or take a walk on the first pitch. The players will use a laundry basket as a glove.

This is a coed tournament, so teams must have equal number males and women on the team. Participants must be 18 years old.

The event is open to eligible Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation patrons. Registration is required by July 21. For more information or to register, call 608-388-2290.

Blind Volleyball Tournament set for July 26 at fitness center

The Blind Volleyball Tournament will be at 4:30 p.m. July 26 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Six people per team, and each team must have a least one female player. The net will be covered so the players on the other team can't see the other side. No spiking is allowed.

The event is open to eligible Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation patrons. For more information or to register, call 608-388-2290.

Swim Into Summer at Rumpel Fitness Center

The Swim Into Summer competition will run until July 26 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Participants will swim the 200-meter freestyle and try to beat Coach McGinnis' time. Participants can try to improve their times as much as they want from June 21 to July 26.

Participants should register for time slots at the fitness center. The competition is open to all authorized Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons.

Family crafting workshop scheduled for Aug. 5

A Crafting Resilience Workshop is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 5 at Army Community Service's Family Workshop Center, building 2161.

Supplies are provided for a number of activities, including scrapbooking, stamping, card making, canvas painting, and no-sew quilt blocks. Some items have limited supplies. Family members also may bring their own projects.

Exceptional Family Member Program members can begin at 8:30 a.m. Family can register for two- to four-hour blocks of time.
Registration is required by the Monday before a workshop.

Class size is limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Army Community Service events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workers, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

Madison Family trip scheduled for Aug. 19

Spend time as a Family in Madison on Aug. 19 and leave the driving to Army Community Service.

The bus will take passengers to Capital Square. The Madison Children's Museum, Wisconsin Veterans Museum, and Dane County Farmers Market are within walking distance. Lunch is not included. There is no admission fee for the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. The Madison Children's Museum is a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission to active-duty military personnel from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The bus will depart Army Community Service at 7:30 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. Meet at building 2111 by 7 a.m.
