Army Birthday celebration scheduled for June 14

Fort McCoy will celebrate the Army's Birthday on June 14. Activities and specials are planned throughout the day.
The Army Values 5k Run Challenge begins at 7 a.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. Registration is required by 6:30 a.m. June 14.

A free drive-thru breakfast will be available 7 to 9 a.m. or while supplies last at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571. Free T-shirts will also be available.

The official cake-cutting ceremony will be at 11:30 a.m. at Constitution Park. Free lunch will be served until 1 p.m., or while supplies last. Live music will be performed by the Army Band. Free bowling and shoe rental also will be available 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571. A free movie rental or in-house video game rental will be available at McCoy's from noon to 4 p.m.

DJ Trivia held weekly at McCoy's

McCoy's Community Center, building 1571, holds DJ trivia from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays.

There is no cost to enter, and advance registration is not required. Prizes are awarded weekly to the top three teams.

The competition is open to all Fort McCoy employees and their guests. Participants must be at least 18 years old to play.

'Connect the Tots' play group scheduled for June 13, 27

The 'Connect the Tots' play group will meet 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 13 and 27 at South Post Patriot Park.

The play groups are for parents with children 5 years old or younger. Through play, transitions, circle time, songs, activities, and informal conversations, parents learn about developmental ages and stages, gain tools to help understand their children's behavior, and become empowered to prepare the Family and children to enter school ready to learn.

ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers. Additional play groups are planned for July 11 and 25 and Aug. 8 and 22.

Army Ten-Miler qualifier scheduled for June 14

The final Army Ten-Miler team qualifier race is at 7 a.m. June 14.

The Army Values 5k Run Challenge is part of the Army Birthday celebration. The race is also open to people who are not trying out for the Army Ten-Miler team.

The Fort McCoy Army Ten-Miler team is open to active-duty or Reserve Soldiers stationed at Fort McCoy. The Army Ten-Miler will be Oct. 8 in Washington, D.C.

ACS offers overview of Blended Retirement System

Army Community Service is offering classes explaining the new Blended Retirement System, which goes into effect Jan. 1, 2018.

The features of the new system include a 20-year, cliff-vested, defined benefit annuity, monthly retired pay with a defined contribution plan, the ability to contribute to a portable Thrift Savings Plan, and government matching contributions.

Classes explaining the new system will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. June 20, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 15, and 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 17. Registration is required one week prior to a scheduled class.

Swim Into Summer starts June 21

The Swim Into Summer competition will run June 21 to July 26 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Participants will swim the 200 meter freestyle and try to beat Coach McGinnis' time. Participants can try to improve their times as much as they want from June 21 to July 26.

Participants should register for time slots at the fitness center. The competition is open to all authorized Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons.

Ticket sales kick off June 22 for 2017 Army Concert

The ticket kick-off sale for the 2017 Army Concert featuring Toby Keith, Cassadee Pope, and Waterloo Revival is June 22.

Tickets will be on sale for $45 on June 22 only. Purchase tickets at the following Kwik Trip locations from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Black River Street in Sparta, West McCoy Boulevard in Tomah by Kentucky Fried Chicken, Rose Street in La Crosse, Highway 16 in Onalaska, and Oak Forest Drive/Highway 35 in Onalaska. Tickets will be available on post at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The price will increase for advance tickets after June 22.

Leinenkugel's Brewery Tour scheduled for July 15

Fort McCoy employees, Soldiers, and their guests can take a tour of Leinenkugel's Brewery on July 15.

The trip includes transportation, a tour of the brewery, beer tasting, and a souvenir glass. All participants must be at least 21 years old.

The bus will depart from McCoy's Community Center, building 1571, at 8 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. Registration is required by June 23. The event costs $30 per person.

Milwaukee Brewers trip planned for Sept. 23

A trip to a Milwaukee Brewers game is planned for Sept. 23.

The event costs $75 per person and includes transportation, a ticket to the Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals game, and a tailgate party.

The bus will depart from McCoy's Community Center, building 1571, at 11 a.m. The game starts at 6:10 p.m.

The event is open to Fort McCoy employees, Soldiers, and their guests. Registration is required by June 30.

Fort McCoy's Pine View Campground offers Family-friendly themed weekend activities throughout the summer.
