DJ Trivia held weekly at McCoy's

McCoy's Community Center, building 1571, holds DJ trivia from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays.

There is no cost to enter, and advance registration is not required. Prizes are awarded weekly to the top three teams.
The competition is open to all Fort McCoy employees and their guests. Participants must be at least 18 years old to play.

Fort McCoy Wellness Fair scheduled for May 17

The annual Fort McCoy Wellness Fair is scheduled for May 17 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For donor information or to schedule an appointment, visit www.redcross.org. Walk-in donations also are accepted.

A 5k run/2-mile walk will start at 10:15 a.m. The first 100 participants to register will receive free T-shirts. Registration is required by 9:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top runners in age and gender categories.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., area businesses will showcase products and services related to fitness and health. Health screenings also will be available from some vendors.

At noon, "Countdown to Wellness" winners will be announced.

Food is available to purchase from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Door prizes will be drawn every 15 minutes. Unclaimed prizes will be redrawn at 12:45 p.m.

AAPI Heritage Month event planned for May 18

The observance for Asian-American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18 at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The 2017 theme is "Unite Our Voices by Speaking Together."

During Asian-American /Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Army honors the perseverance of those who courageously reached for their hopes and dreams in a new land and celebrates the important effects the Asian-American/Pacific Islander community has had on the nation.

Family Pool Party scheduled for May 19

A Family Pool Party is planned for 5 to 6:30 p.m. May 19 at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The event will feature a scavenger hunt, water polo and other water games, and silly Family photos. A snack will be provided. The event costs $10 per Family.

3-gun match set for May 20 at Sportsman's Range

Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range will hold a three-gun match at 9 a.m. May 20.

Participants can register at the range the day of the event.

Preregistration costs $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Registration costs $35 the day of the event.

'Connect the Tots' play group scheduled for May 23

The 'Connect the Tots' play group will meet 9:30 to 11 a.m. May 23 at Army Community Service Family Building, building 2161.

The play groups are for parents with children 5 years old or younger.

Through play, transitions, circle time, songs, activities, and informal conversations, parents learn about developmental ages and stages, gain tools to help understand their children's behavior, and become empowered to prepare the Family and children to enter school ready to learn.

ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

Memorial Day Prayer Luncheon scheduled for May 25

The Religious Support Office's annual Memorial Day Prayer Luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The guest speaker is Mark T. Barclay, founding pastor of Living Word International Church in Midland, Mich. He also served as a Marine and is a Vietnam veteran.

Lunch is provided by the Religious Support Office to the first 120 people to register. Registration is requested by May 22.

1st, 310th; Tomah VA to hold May 25 walk/run

The 1st, 310th Brigade Engineering Battalion, a unit belonging to Fort McCoy tenant 181st Multi-Functional Training Brigade, is coordinating with the Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center to hold a 5k run/1-mile walk May 25 in honor of Memorial Day.

There are no prizes or awards. Participants also may choose to walk 1 mile instead.

The event will be at the Tomah VA Medical Center. Registration is required by 8 a.m. May 25. Opening remarks will start at 8:30 a.m., and the run/walk will begin shortly after.

The event is free and open to the public.

Suicide-prevention training available June 5-6

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 5-6 at Army Community Service, building 2111.

ASIST is for people who want to be able to provide suicide first aid. Shown by major studies to significantly reduce suicides, the ASIST model teaches effective intervention skills while helping to build suicide-prevention networks in the community.

Participants will learn to recognize and assess the potential risk of suicide, keep an at-risk person safe until help arrives, reach out and offer support, and link people with resources.

The training is intended for people who are gatekeepers. For more information about gatekeepers and whether the training is appropriate for a particular group, call the Army Substance Abuse Program office at 608-388-2441.

Registration is required by June 1.

Family crafting workshop scheduled for June 10

A Crafting Resilience Workshops is scheduled for June 10 at Army Community Service's Family Workshop Center, building 2161.

The workshops provide time and space for Families to create projects together and learn skills to increase resilience, including time management, journaling, and more.

Supplies are provided for a number of activities, including scrapbooking, stamping, card making, canvas painting, and no-sew quilt blocks. Some items have limited supplies. Family members also may bring their own projects.

The workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Exceptional Family Member Program members can begin at 8:30 a.m. Family can register for two- to four-hour blocks of time.

Additional workshops are scheduled for July 15 and Aug. 5. Registration is required by the Monday before a workshop.
Class size is limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Army Community Service events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workers, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.
