Health clinic offers flu vaccinations

Walk-in flu vaccinations are available until Thursday, Dec. 15, to Fort McCoy civilian and military personnel at the Fort McCoy Health Clinic, building 2669.

Vaccinations will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. No walk-in vaccinations will be given Oct. 25-27 or Nov. 8-17 due to staffing limitations.

Halloween walk/run scheduled for Oct. 31

A costumed 1-mile walk/relay run is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 31, at 11:30 a.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

All participants must wear Halloween costumes. Runners and walkers compete in three-person teams. Walkers must start and finish the race as a team. Runners participate in a relay race.

The fastest relay and walking teams, as well as the team with the best costumes, receive prizes. The event is free and open to all eligible Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. Registration is required by 11 a.m. Oct. 31 at Rumpel Fitness Center.

Patron Appreciation Day set for Nov. 4 at commissary

The Fort McCoy Commissary is holding its Patron Appreciation Day Friday, Nov. 4.

Starting at 10 a.m., free lunch (bratwurst, chips, and soda) will be served to 100 customers with same-day receipts. Customers may enter for door prizes, and extra savings will be available on select items.

Also on Nov. 4, commissary shoppers can get free reusable shopping bags imprinted with important contact information about services available to them thanks to a partnership with Military OneSource. One shopping bag will be distributed per customer while supplies last.

The bags are one way the program reaches out where the military community lives, works, plays, and shops. Serving more than 7 million patrons per month worldwide, the commissary is a great resource to get the bags in the hands of military members and their Families.

Military OneSource is a Department of Defense-funded program that provides free, confidential help, tools, and information to active-duty, National Guard and Reserve service members; their immediate Family members; and survivors.

'Sit, Sip, Paint' party set for Nov. 4 at McCoy's

A "Sit, Sip, Paint" canvas-painting party is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, at 5:30 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The workshop is a step-by-step painting demonstration by artist Linda Oldenburg. Participants will paint a 16-by-20-inch work of art.

All art supplies are provided. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., and painting begins at 6:30 p.m. Wine, beverages, and food will be available for purchase.

Daylight Saving Time ends Nov. 6

Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, Nov. 6, at 2 a.m. Central Standard Time resumes on this day.

People are encouraged to turn clocks back one hour the evening of Saturday, Nov. 5. This also is a good time to check the operability of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers.

3-on-3 basketball league starts Nov. 8

A three-on-three basketball league starts Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Teams consists of three players and may have two alternates. Games will start at 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday through Dec. 27.
The league is open to eligible patrons of the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

ACS play group set for Nov. 8

Army Community Service's (ACS) "Connect the Tots" play group is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at building 2161.

The play group is designed to help strengthen each child's cognitive, physical, and creative selves and promote social-emotional skill building.

Additional play groups are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 22, and Tuesday, Dec. 6. Call ACS at 608-388-2412.

 

Pickleball league set to begin Nov. 9

A pickleball league starts Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Games will start at 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday through Dec. 21.

The league is open to eligible Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons who are at least 18 years old. Registration is required by Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Veterans Day prayer luncheon to be held Nov. 10

The Religious Support Office's Veterans Day Prayer Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The guest speaker is the Rev. John K. Stake, a Lutheran pastor from Adams County, Wis.; former infantry officer; and retired Army chaplain (colonel).

Lunch is provided by the Chaplain's Office.

The event is open to the Fort McCoy community but limited to the first 100 people. Reservations are required by Friday, Nov 4.

Health Benefits Fair set for Nov. 16

The Health Benefits Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon in building 2187, room 120.

Representatives of health insurance companies will be on hand to answer questions and hand out literature. The 2016 Federal Employees Health Benefits Program open season is Monday, Nov. 14, through Monday, Dec. 12. 2017 rates are available at www.opm.gov/openseason.

Fowl 5k run/walk scheduled for Nov. 16

The Fowl 5k run/walk is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The fastest male and female runners will earn prizes. Walkers may participate in a 2-mile loop. The event costs $15, and the first 25 to register will be given T-shirts.

Nov. 17 class offers methods to beat holiday stress

Two classes on overcoming stress during the holiday season will be offered Thursday, Nov. 17, at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

The class covers the signs and symptoms of stress, how to avoid the "holiday blues," stress-management techniques, and strategies to guide children through the holidays.

ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers. Registration is required by Thursday, Nov. 10.

Christmas card workshop scheduled for Dec. 3

A Family Christmas card workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3, at building 2161.

The workshop is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Families may reserve up to three hours of time. Families in the Exceptional Family Members Program may start at 8:30 a.m.

All supplies are provided. Class sizes are limited. Family groups must consist of at least one child and one adult. Registration is required by Monday, Nov. 28.

Army Community Service hosts wood-shop workshops

Army Community Service (ACS) is planning several wood-shop workshops.

The workshops are designed to promote Family resilience by helping Families create projects together. Geographical bachelors and single participants also are welcome.

Planned projects and dates include:

• pallet holiday tree — 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, or 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6.

• wooden pens — 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, or 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017.

All materials and instructions are provided at the workshop.

Class sizes are limited, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Earlier start times are available for Families in the Exceptional Family Member Program.

A free tool will be handed out to children 18 and under at each workshop.

ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workers, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.
Registration is required one week prior to each class.
