Open-play paintball scheduled for Oct. 15

An open-play paintball day is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. at the Tactics Paintball & Laser Tag area at Whitetail Ridge Ski Area.

The event is open to the public. Entrance costs $20 per person and includes 500 paintballs. Additional paintballs may be purchased: $15 for an extra 500 or $55 for an extra 2,000.

Rental equipment also is available, but players may bring their own. Players are not allowed to bring their own paintballs. No advance registration is required. Players must be at least 10 years old, and players who are 10-17 years old must have parents or guardians sign waiver forms.

Post flag-football tournament planned for Oct. 17-19

A postwide flag-football tournament is scheduled for Oct. 17-19. Games will begin at 6 p.m. each day at the Staff Sgt. Todd R. Cornell Noncommissioned Officer Academy physical-readiness training field. Teams will consist of six players and two substitutes.

The tournament is open to both service members and Department of Defense civilians.There is no cost. Register at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122, by Friday, Oct. 14.

Fort McCoy MICC to host open house Oct. 18

Mission & Installation Contracting Command–Fort McCoy will host an Acquisition Open House Forum from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Wisconsin Military Academy.

The purpose of the event is to educate contractors on how to do business with the federal government and show the services, construction, and commodities required for Soldiers and civilians at Fort McCoy.

Presentations will be given by staff members of the Wisconsin Procurement Institute, General Services Administration, the Department of Labor, the Small Business Administration, and local directorates.

ACS play group scheduled for Oct. 18

Army Community Service's (ACS) "Connect the Tots" play group is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at building 2161.

The play group is designed to help strengthen each child's cognitive, physical, and creativeselves and to help promote social-emotional skill building.

Additional play groups are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 8; Tuesday, Nov. 22; and Tuesday, Dec. 6. Call ACS at 608-388-2412.

 

Health Clinic offers flu vaccinations starting Oct. 20

Walk-in flu vaccinations are available to Fort McCoy civilian and military personnel at the Fort McCoy Health Clinic, building 2669, starting Thursday, Oct. 20.

Vaccinations will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. No walk-in vaccinations will be given Oct. 25-27 or Nov. 8-17 due to staffing limitations.

Halloween bowling party scheduled for Oct. 21

A children's costumed bowling party is planned for Friday, Oct. 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The event will feature costume contests, games, prizes, and bowling for $2 per game. The event is open to children ages 16 and younger.

Christmas card workshops scheduled for Oct. 22, Dec. 3

Family Christmas card workshops are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, and Saturday, Dec. 3, at building 2161.

The workshop is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Families may reserve up to three hours of time. Families in the Exceptional Family Members Program may start at 8:30 a.m.

All supplies are provided. Class sizes are limited. Family groups must consist of at least one child and one adult. Registration is required by Monday, Oct. 17, for October event.

Insurance class set for Oct. 27

"What Insurance Do You Need?" is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

The class defines different types of insurance and their purposes and helps participants determine which types of insurance they need.

Registration is required by Friday, Oct. 21. ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

Military Family workshops set for Oct. 27; Nov. 3, 5

"Military Families: Stronger Together" resiliency workshops are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 27; Thursday, Nov. 3; and Saturday, Nov. 5, at building 2161.

Two projects are available for Families. Families may design and create 2017 Family calendars using rubber stamps, stickers, and more. Families should bring along photos if they wish to use them in the calendar.

Participants also may create quilt block wall hangings made from foam and fabric. No sewing is required.

The workshop is open from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 and Nov. 3 and 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 5. Families may reserve up to three hours of time. Families in the Exceptional Family Members Program may start an hour before the general start time.

All supplies are furnished. Class sizes are limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required for all workshops by Friday, Oct. 21.

The workshops are open to military and retiree Families. Department of Defense civilians may register on a space-available basis.

Fitness center hosts Oct. 28 Great Pumpkin Pool Party

The Great Pumpkin Pool Party is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The event features cookie decorating, an underwater scavenger hunt, and a Halloween movie. The scavenger hunt starts promptly at 5 p.m.

The event costs $5 per person and is open to all eligible Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. Advance registration is not required.

A Halloween Bash is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The event will feature contests, games, and prizes, including a costume contest. Food and drink specials will be offered, and a DJ will play starting at 8 p.m.

The event is open to all eligible Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. Advance registration is not required.

Halloween walk/run scheduled for Oct. 31

A costumed 1-mile walk/relay run is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 31, at 11:30 a.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

All participants must wear Halloween costumes. Runners and walkers compete in three-person teams. Walkers must start and finish the race as a team. Runners participate in a relay race.

The fastest relay and walking teams, as well as the team with the best costumes, receive prizes. The event is free and open to all eligible Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. Registration is required by 11 a.m. Oct. 31 at Rumpel Fitness Center.

'Sit, Sip, Paint' party set for Nov. 4 at McCoy's

A "Sit, Sip, Paint" canvas-painting party is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, at 5:30 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.

The workshop is a step-by-step painting demonstration by artist Linda Oldenburg.

Participants will paint a 16-by-20-inch work of art. All art supplies are provided. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., and painting begins at 6:30 p.m. Wine, beverages, and food will be available to purchase. The workshop costs $35 per person.

The event is open to the public. Space is limited.

Health Benefits Fair set for Nov. 16

The Health Benefits Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon in building 2187, room 120.

Representatives of health insurance companies will be on hand to answer questions and hand out literature. The 2016 Federal Employees Health Benefits Program open season is Monday, Nov. 14, through Monday, Dec. 12. 2017 rates are available at www.opm.gov/openseason.

Fort McCoy Commissary offers specials for fall

Whether it's ingredients for an Oktoberfest meal, candy for Halloween, or snacks and beverages for a big football game, the commissary is the place to shop for low prices on popular items, said Tracie Russ, the Defense Commissary Agency's director of sales.

"The fall season is always a great time to shop the commissary," Russ said. "We're offering daily specials throughout the stores and seasonal club packs at great savings for the upcoming holidays.

"We also want our patrons to know it's National Apple Month (in October), and our produce departments feature coupon bundles for savings on a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables," she added.
