Armed Forces Day Open House set for May 21

Fort McCoy will host its annual Armed Forces Day Open House Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

The installation's award-winning Commemorative Area will serve as the hub for all activities.

The Equipment Park, Commemorative Area Buildings, History Center, and Veterans Memorial Plaza will be open throughout the day.

Activities include guided installation bus tours, personalized ID tags, camouflage face-painting, an interactive marksmanship gallery, and an obstacle course for children.

A food-and-beverage concession stand will be operating during the event.

The 2016 event has expanded to include several new displays from the Medical Simulation Training Center, the 181st Infantry Brigade, a cultural-resource display from the Natural Resources Branch, and a mobile unit from USO Wisconsin. Representatives of the Army, Army Reserve, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard auxiliary will be on site.

Visitors can access the event site via Gate 15 off Wisconsin Highway 21 between Tomah and Sparta. Adult visitors must be prepared to show valid photo identification upon entering.
