ZZ Top, Gregg Allman to play Aug. 20 concert

The 2016 Army Concert at Constitution Park will feature ZZ Top and Gregg Allman Saturday, Aug. 20.

A kickoff sale Friday, June 24, will offer show tickets for $40. Tickets will be available at Kwik Trip locations in Sparta (Black River Street), Tomah (West McCoy Boulevard by KFC), Onalaska (Highway 16 and Highway 35/Oak Forest Drive), and La Crosse (Rose Street) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and online at mccoy.armymwr.com from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Starting June 25, tickets will cost $50. Day-of-show tickets will cost $60.

McCoy's Community Center expands hours

McCoy's Community Center, building 1571, opened weekends starting April 2.

Primo Express Restaurant's new hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m. The bar will be open Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from 4 to 11 p.m. Bowling and recreation will be open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 4 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m.

Lifeguard-certification course starts April 9 at fitness center

A lifeguard-certification course starts Saturday, April 9, at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The class provides entry-level training to become a Red Cross lifeguard and will teach participants to prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies.

Participants will be certified in lifeguard training; waterfront lifeguarding; and first aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillators.

The class is from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9; Sunday, April 17; Saturday, April 23; and Saturday, April 30. Participants must attend all four sessions to receive certification.

Participants must be at least 15 years old, able to swim 300 meters, and complete a timed brick retrieval. A written test, demonstrated proficiency in water skills, and a fitness test are required to complete certification.

Registration fees are $150 for military members and $200 for Department of Defense civilians. The class is free for Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation employees.

Budgeting, debt-reduction class offered April 12 at ACS

A budgeting and debt-reduction class is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

The class covers the principles of budgeting, including strategies on how to manage money.

April Showers 5k Run/Walk scheduled for April 13

The April Showers 5k Run/Walk is Wednesday, April 13, at 2:30 p.m. in front of Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1121.

The race is to raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Participants are encouraged to wear blue or teal.

The event is free and open to all authorized Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners and the top team. The Commander's Challenge Award will be given to the organization with the most registered participants.

Dodgeball tournament planned April 14 at fitness center

A dodgeball tournament is set for Thursday, April 14, at 4:30 p.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The tournament is a single-elimination, three-game match, in five-person teams. Prizes will be awarded to the first-place team.

The tournament is open to eligible fitness center patrons who are at least 18 years old. Register at the fitness center. For more information, call 608-388-2290.

 

Bowling tournament set for April 17 at McCoy's

A doubles scratch tournament is scheduled for Sunday, April 17, at 2 p.m. at McCoy's Community Center, building 1571.
The cost is $40 per two-person team.

The tournament will be played in eliminator format: The lowest score per pair of lanes will be dropped each game. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

The tournament is open to the public. Registration is required by Sunday, April 10.

Car-detailing workshop scheduled for April 22

A car-detailing workshop is scheduled for Friday, April 22, from 1:30 to 9 p.m. at the Automotive Skills Center, building 1763.

The workshop will provide tips on waxing, vacuuming, and leather restoration. Vehicles need to be washed beforehand for waxing.

The workshop is open to all eligible Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. No registration is required. Regular fees still apply.

Thrift Savings Plan class scheduled for April 26 at ACS

A class on the Thrift Savings Plan is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

The class covers the basics of the Thrift Savings Plan, including how to sign up and the five available funds.

'Can I Kiss You?' programs set for April 27

Two sessions of "Can I Kiss You?" will be offered at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in building 905.

The program is sponsored by the Army Community Service (ACS) Family Advocacy Program and Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) program.

The "Can I Kiss You?" presentation is an entertaining, interactive training program that covers consent, bystander intervention, and supporting survivors of sexual assault. It may be used in lieu of the Army Distance Learning System's online SHARP training with approval from leadership.

It was developed by Mike Domitrz, author of "May I Kiss You?" and a leading authority on sexual-assault awareness. The event is open to military members, retirees, civilian workers, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

Holocaust remembrance set for April 28

The Fort McCoy observance of the Holocaust National Days of Remembrance is scheduled for Thursday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to noon at building 905.

The guest speaker is John Regnier, a World War II veteran who was present at the liberation of the Ohrdruf concentration camp in Germany. He also is co-author of "Denying the Deniers: A Soldier's Intersection with the Holocaust."

Family birdhouse workshop set for April 30 at ACS

A "Build Your Own Birdhouse" Family workshop is Saturday, April 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at building 2161.

Families may register for up to a three-hour block of time. Families in the Exceptional Family Member Program may sign up for a slot starting at 8:30 a.m. Materials and instruction will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Class sizes are limited. Registration is required by April 22.

Fort McCoy Commissary to change hours May 1

The Fort McCoy Commissary will change its hours of operation starting Sunday, May 1.

The commissary will now open Mondays and be closed Sundays.

The new hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early bird shopping with self-checkout will be available Monday through Friday from 9 to 10 a.m.
