December storm

A grader plows a street on Fort McCoy Dec. 28 during a winter storm that eventually blanketed the post with more than 8 inches of snow. The storm started midday Dec. 28 and continued into Dec. 29. Some areas near Fort McCoy received more than 12 inches of snow.

Tree trimming

Arborist Aaron Schauer with contractor Agape Tree Care of Rio, Wis., trims dead branches from an oak tree Dec. 30 on the Fort McCoy cantonment area. The work was done to improve the health of several old trees on post. The Forestry Office with the Directorate of Public Works oversaw the project's completion.

Toys for pups

A staff member with the School-Age Center/Youth Center and a Fort McCoy youth work together on a project to make dog toys to be donated to local animal shelters. The Dec. 29 project was one of several taking place at the SAC/YC Winter Camp.

Baptism

Monsignor Delbert Malin (left), Jennifer Thomas, Sgt. 1st Class Jon Thomas, and the daughter of the Thomas family, are pictured following a baptism for the baby Dec. 27 at Fort McCoy. According to the Fort McCoy Religious Services Office, the Catholic baptism was the first to take place in a Fort McCoy church in 12 years. Other baptisms have taken place since at the Rumpel Fitness Center pool, but not at a church.

Troop facilities upgrade

Contractors from NUVO Construction work on an old barracks building in the 1900 block at Fort McCoy in December. The work is part of a task order to renovate 12 facilities in the block, which, when complete, will add an additional 600 bed spaces for transient troop training. The contract work is coordinated by the Directorate of Public Works.
