Day for Kids

Children participate in a ball-throwing game during Fort McCoy Day for Kids Sept. 12 at the installation. Events during the day included a fun run, games, activity booths, and a free lunch.

Remembering 9/11

Soldiers participate in a remembrance ceremony Sept. 11 in observance of the 14th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States at the Staff Sgt. Todd R. Cornell Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Fort McCoy. The academy observes the remembrance with speakers recalling the events that took place, reviewing what has taken place since, and offering inspiration in moving forward.

Roadkill 5k

Participants in the Roadkill 5k run/walk move along a Fort McCoy road Sept. 16. Dozens of people participated. Kalan Althoff and Michael Plante won first and second places, respectively, in the male category. Theresa Ertl and Kimberly Burrows placed first and second, respectively, in the female category.

Case-lot sale

Shoppers go through the check-out process during a case-lot sale held on the installation by the Fort McCoy Commissary. Commissary personnel held the sale Sept. 11-12, with hundreds of people taking advantage of savings on bulk items. The Commissary is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information about the Fort McCoy Commissary, call 608-388-3542.

Sportsman's Days

A youth practices shooting at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range in early September as part of Sportsman's Days.

Sportsman-themed events were held throughout Labor Day weekend at Pine View Campground and Sportsman's Range.

Events included a fishing contest, a flint-and-steel fire-starting demonstration, a canoe tug of war, an apple-shooting contest for children ages 13 and under, a scavenger hunt, a clay-bird contest, and a parent/child archery contest.

Celebrating Hispanic heritage

Capt. Brian Thompson, 86th Training Division, samples salsa during a National Hispanic Heritage Month food-tasting event hosted by the 86th at Fort McCoy. Hispanic Heritage Month spans from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 every year.
