Summer fishing contest kicks off May 23

The biggest catches of the summer will win prizes in Pine View Campground's Summer Fishing Contest, which starts May 23 and ends Sept. 7.

Fish must be caught in Fort McCoy waters and registered the day of the catch at Pine View Campground's office, building 8053, during normal hours of operation.

Fishermen will be divided by age categories: age 15 and under or age 16 and over. Winners will be selected for both age groups in each of five categories: largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, panfish, and trout. Fish will be judged by weight but must be of legal length to be entered in the competition.

Anglers must have the appropriate Fort McCoy permits and state of Wisconsin licenses. Anglers are reminded that a Wisconsin trout stamp is required when fishing for trout. Fort McCoy fishing permits are sold through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Automated License Issuance System. Fort McCoy also will participate in Wisconsin's free fishing weekend June 6-7. No licenses or trout stamps are required to fish that weekend.
