Fish stocking

Staff from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Genoa National Fish Hatchery stock rainbow trout in Squaw Lake on Fort McCoy's North Post April 22. More than 4,000 trout were stocked in the lake.

Overall, 15,000 trout were stocked in Fort McCoy waters, including Squaw Lake, Big Sandy Lake, Stillwell Lake, Swamp Pond, and Sparta Pond.

The trout average 10 inches in length and were stocked in time for the opening of the Wisconsin fishing season May 2.

Alderwood Dam Project

Contractors continue work on the Alderwood Dam Project April 27 on Fort McCoy's North Post. The project includes the removal of Alderwood Dam; obliteration of an existing asphalt road; removal of muck lake-bottom soil from what formerly was Alderwood Lake; and the installation of a new, precast bridge. The project was designed by Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. of La Crosse, Wis. Michels Corporation, headquartered in Brownsville, Wis., is the contractor for the project.
