83rd USARRTC selects Best Warrior

Staff Sgt. Roi B. Cavan, small-group leader at the Staff Sgt. Todd R. Cornell Noncommissioned Officer Academy, was selected as winner of the 83rd United States Army Reserve Readiness Training Center (USARRTC) 2015 Best Warrior Competition in early April.

During the competition, Cavan competed in several activities, including: the Army Physical Fitness Test; urban orienteering using the Defense Advanced GPS Receiver; a 10K road march carrying a 35-pound ruck sack, a written essay; day-and-night land navigation; M16 rifle-shooting qualification; M16, M240, and M9 weapons assemble and function check; conditioning and confidence course completion; first-aid and nine-line medical evacuation at the Medical Simulation Training Center; and participated in an appearance board.

Cavan now will compete at the U.S. Army Reserve Command-level in the same competition activities as well as compete in Army Combatives. The 83rd USARRTC, headquartered at Fort Knox, Ky., develops and delivers learner-centric education and training for Soldiers and civilians in leader, functional, and duty military occupational specialty qualification programs of instruction.
