'Budgeting & Bills' workshop set for April 16 at ACS

Learn to manage a budget and increase savings with the "Budgeting & Bills" workshop Thursday, April 16.

The class is from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111. The class will help participants examine their monthly expenditures, learn their spending habits, differentiate needs from wants, and learn about the bill-tracker book that is distributed in class. Participants should bring a list of monthly expenditures with them.

Registration is required by Monday, April 13. ACS events are open to military members, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members, and registered Fort McCoy volunteers. For more information or to register, call ACS at 608-388-3540/3505.

 

April 16 workshop prepares vehicles for warmer weather

Prepare vehicles for spring and summer with a do-it-yourself workshop Thursday, April 16, at the Automotive Skills Center.

The workshop will be from 1:30 to 9 p.m. at the center, building 1763. Participants should plan to spend at least an hour at the workshop, but more time may be needed if a lot of work is required.

A 10-point checklist will help participants get their vehicles ready for warmer weather. Attendees must provide their own coolant, oil, oil filter, washer fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid. Assistance will be provided as needed by the Automotive Skills Center staff.

No registration is required, and regular fees still apply. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. All participants also will receive six Car Wash tokens. For more information, call 608-388-3013.

 

Red Cross blood drive to be held April 17

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive at Fort McCoy Friday, April 17. The drive is from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. Free juice and cookies are available for donors.

Donors can make appointments in advance or preview eligibility requirements by calling 1-800-733-2767 or visiting www.redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins are welcome.

 

3-D archery competition April 18 at Sportsman's Range

A 3-D archery competition is set for Saturday, April 18, at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range. Participants can shoot anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The competition is for all skill levels and open to the public.

April 20 class teaches Families to help single Soldiers reintegrate

A class to teach Families to help single Soldiers prepare for the reintegration process is scheduled for Monday, April 20.

The class is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Army Community Service, building 2111. The class covers the five phases of reintegration, myths and misconceptions about the process, and what is considered "normal."

'Fire Up for Fitness' offers free classes April 20-24

The "Fire Up for Fitness" program will offer patrons free fitness classes from April 20-24 at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The fitness center is open to all Morale, Welfare and Recreation authorized patrons who are age 16 and older. No registration is necessary; patrons may show up for the classes of their choice during the week. Call 608-388-2290 for more information.

 

Ride for autism awareness set for April 23 at fitness center

Patrons can ride the indoor cycling bikes in an effort to bring awareness to autism. The event will be held Thursday, April 23, at 5:30 a.m. at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The ride is open to all Morale, Welfare and Recreation authorized patrons who are age 16 and older. Call 608-388-2290 for more.

 

3-gun shooting competition April 25 at Sportsman's Range

A three-gun shooting competition will be held Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range.

Participants will shoot three courses of fire. Each stage will be judged on speed and accuracy. Prizes will be awarded to the top finisher in each of the following categories: open, tactical scoped, tactical irons, and heavy metal. The event is open to all authorized users of the facility. The entry fee is $20 for nonmembers or $15 for members. Register at Sportsman's Range or Pine View Campground, building 8053.

Shotguns, rifles, and pistols are available for rent at the range; rented firearms must use ammunition purchased at the range. Prizes will be awarded to the top finisher in each division. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. For more information, call 608-388-3200.

 

Paintball tournament set for April 25

Fort McCoy's Tactics Paintball and Laser Tag facility will host a paintball tournament Saturday, April 25, at 9:15 a.m. The tournament is open to the public. Players must be at least 10 years old and will compete in three-person teams. The tournament will be double elimination — teams must win two out of three matches.

The registration fee is $30 per team plus the cost of paintballs. Free equipment rental will be available. Player-owned paintball guns are allowed. Prizes will be awarded to members of the top-three winning teams.

South Post garden plots available for rent

South Post garden plots are available for rent to authorized Fort McCoy Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. The rental fee for a 20-by-20-foot plot is $35. The plots will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis to authorized patrons, with military Families having priority, until all plots are rented. Soldier Show makes stop at Fort McCoy May 10

The 2015 U.S. Army Soldier Show will perform at Fort McCoy Sunday, May 10.

The show will be at 4 p.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center. Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Soldier Show is a live Broadway-style variety performance featuring the Army's best talent. Each year, Army Entertainment brings together a talented troupe of performers who are selected through a rigorous audition process. They spend months rehearsing and training before taking the show on the road annually from May to September.

Entertainment for the Soldier, by the Soldier, has been a part of the U.S. Army's heritage since 1774. Building on the tradition of Civil War camp shows and military shows such as "This Is The Army" during World War II, Army Entertainment was formalized to inspire, support, and coordinate theatrical and musical programs at Army installations worldwide.

 

Annual Armed Forces Day Open House set for May 16 at Fort McCoy

Mark your calendars! The annual Fort McCoy Armed Forces Day Open House will be held Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The installation's historic Commemorative Area will serve as the hub of activity for this family-oriented event, which is free and open to the public.

The Commemorative Area Buildings, Equipment Park, and Veterans Memorial Plaza will be open throughout the day. Crowd favorites include guided installation bus tours, personalized dog tags, camouflage face-painting, an interactive marksmanship gallery, military equipment and demonstrations, and more.

A food-and-beverage concession stand will be operating during the event. Visitors can access the event site via Gate 15 off of Wisconsin Highway 21 between Tomah and Sparta. Adult visitors must be prepared to show photo identification upon entering. 2015 Fort McCoy Guide available May 1

The 2015 Fort McCoy Guide will be available Friday, May 1. The online version will be available through the Fort McCoy public website at www.mccoy.army.mil.

The annual guide contains information about a variety of topics, including a Fort McCoy overview; telephone directory; and community life, attractions, and history.

Print copies will be distributed through official channels and will be available at rack locations throughout the installation, including the Visitor Control Center, building 35; the Exchange, building 1538; McCoy's Community Club, building 1571; and Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. The online version of the guide will be updated on a continuous basis.
