Laundry facilities to reopen April 1

All laundry facilities at Fort McCoy will be open 24/7 beginning Wednesday, April 1.

Facilities are located in buildings 651, 755, 1671, 1735, 1856, 2002, 2568, 2671, 2763, and 2877. Laundry facilities are exclusively for use by Soldiers training at Fort McCoy pursuant to military orders. Civilians, contractors, and retired military members are not authorized to use these facilities.

Central Vehicle Wash Facility opens April 1

Fort McCoy's Central Vehicle Wash Facility, located on Washrack Road, will reopen for the season Wednesday, April 1. The facility will be open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the month of April.

Starting in May, the facility will be open daily. Staff may open the facility on weekends in April and October as needed. Central Vehicle Wash Facility is for tactical vehicles and equipment only; privately owned, GSA, and leased vehicles are not allowed. For more information, call 608-388-4241/6110.

 

McCoy's Community Club begins extended hours April 6

McCoy's Community Club, building 1571, will extend its operating hours and open on weekends starting Monday, April 6.
Primo's will be open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m.

Bowling will be available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m. Extreme Bowling will still be Friday from 4 to 9 p.m.

The bar will be open Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from 5 to 11 p.m. For more information, call 608-388-2065.

 

Recreation Center opens for season April 7

Fort McCoy's Recreation Center will reopen Tuesday, April 7, at noon.

The leisure facility, located in building 2000, offers activities for Soldiers, civilians, and their Family members. It includes a large-screen TV lounge, video-gaming area, music room, and deck and patio area with a volleyball court. Indoor and outdoor games, including board and arcade games, shuffleboard, darts, ladder golf, foosball, and ping-pong, are available to use. DVDs, grills, and laptops can be rented.

The Recreation Center will be open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. For more information, call 608-388-3213.

 

SHARP self-defense class set for April 7 at Rumpel

Army Community Service (ACS) will offer a Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) self-defense class Tuesday, April 7, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1654.

The training will demonstrate self-defense techniques and allow hands-on practice. To register, email the ACS SHARP point of contact, Jamie Cram, at jamie.a.cram.civ@mail.mil.

 

Newcomer's Orientation planned for April 8 at ACS

Newcomer's Orientation is Wednesday, April 8, from 8:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Army Community Service (ACS), building 2111.

The class is open to anyone new to Fort McCoy and provides information about the many services Fort McCoy has to offer. It also includes a bus tour of the installation. To register or for more information, call ACS at 608-388-3505.

 

DTS authorizations, vouchers class set for April 8-9

A two-day class on the Defense Travel System (DTS) will be offered April 8-9 at Fort McCoy. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service lead DTS administrator will conduct the sessions from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in building 50, room DL3.

The class explains how to create temporary-duty authorizations and vouchers for active-duty, civilian, and Reserve travelers. The class also provides hands-on experience in creating authorizations and vouchers using the DTS training database. Beginner and intermediate DTS users are welcome.

Registration is required by Friday, April 3, at 3 p.m. Class sizes are limited. The class is open to military members and Department of Defense civilian personnel. April Showers 5K event set for April 8

An April Showers 5K Run/Walk will be held Wednesday, April 8, at 11:30 a.m. at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. The event is free and open to all authorized Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. Prizes will be awarded to the first- and second-place male and female runners.

Sportsman's Range opens for season April 9

Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range will open for the season Thursday, April 9. Hours will be Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be construction at the range this year; patrons are encouraged to call ahead to make sure their desired range is open.

Annual membership rates are $60 for military personnel, $80 for nonmilitary, and $100 for a Family. Daily passes are $5 for military personnel and $7 for nonmilitary. Daily combo passes for firearm and archery are $8 for military and $10 for nonmilitary. Memberships can be purchased at Pine View Campground, Central Registration, building 2000, or Sportsman's Range.

The range is open to active-duty and retired military, Department of Defense (DOD) appropriated-fund and nonappropriated-fund employees, retired civilian employees, and DOD contractor employees working full time at Fort McCoy identified through Department of the Army civilian common access cards. Immediate Family members and guests of all identifiable categories also may use the range.

Yahtzee tournament planned for April 15 at Recreation Center

A Yahtzee tournament will be held Wednesday, April 15, at 6 p.m. at the Recreation Center, building 2000. The tournament is open to authorized Recreation Center patrons.

A minimum of four participants is necessary. There is no entry fee, and prizes will be awarded. For more information, call 608-388-3200.

 

Holocaust remembrance event set for April 16 at building 905

Fort McCoy's observance of the Holocaust National Days of Remembrance will be held Thursday, April 16, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at building 905. A meet-and-greet event will be held at McCoy's Community Club, building 1571, afterward.

The guest speaker will be Stephen Feinberg, who retired from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., in December 2011. Feinberg was the director of the National Outreach program at the museum from 2000 to 2009. Feinberg also served as a member of the U.S. delegation to what is now known as the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance from 1999 to 2011. He also served as a consultant for UNESCO, the University of South Carolina Shoah Foundation, and the Conference on Jewish Materials Claims Against Germany (The Claims Conference).

Space available for April 18 rummage sale

A rummage sale will be held Saturday, April 18, from 6 a.m. to noon at the Recreation Center, building 2000. Authorized Recreation Center patrons can both sell and purchase items at the sale.

Selling spaces are available for $10 and include four tables. Additional tables are available for $5 each. For more information, call 608-388-3200.

 

3-D archery competition April 18 at Sportsman's Range

A 3-D archery competition is set for Saturday, April 18, at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range.

Participants can shoot anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The competition is for all skill levels and open to the public.

2015 Fort McCoy Guide available May 1

The 2015 Fort McCoy Guide will be available Friday, May 1. The online version will be available through the Fort McCoy public website at www.mccoy.army.mil. The annual guide contains information about a variety of topics, including a Fort McCoy overview; telephone directory; and community life, attractions, and history.

Print copies will be distributed through official channels and will be available at rack locations throughout the installation, including the Visitor Control Center, building 35; the Exchange, building 1538; McCoy's Community Club, building 1571; and Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. The online version of the guide will be updated on a continuous basis.

Annual Armed Forces Day Open House set for May 16 at Fort McCoy

Mark your calendars! The annual Fort McCoy Armed Forces Day Open House will be held Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The installation's historic Commemorative Area will serve as the hub of activity for this family-oriented event, which is free and open to the public.

The Commemorative Area Buildings, Equipment Park, and Veterans Memorial Plaza will be open throughout the day. Crowd favorites include guided installation bus tours, personalized dog tags, camouflage face-painting, an interactive marksmanship gallery, military equipment and demonstrations, and more.

A food-and-beverage concession stand will be operating during the event. Visitors can access the event site via Gate 15 off of Wisconsin Highway 21 between Tomah and Sparta. Adult visitors must be prepared to show photo identification upon entering. Automotive Skills Center offers oil-change service

The Automotive Skills Center has added oil changes to its list of services. Authorized patrons may drop off vehicles at the center, building 1763.

Appointments are available Thursdays from 1 to 8 p.m. Walk-ins also are welcome. Patrons must provide oil and filters; the staff will perform the service. The service fee is $15. For more information, please call 608-388-3013.

 

Book club begins April 1

A book club, open to authorized Recreation Center patrons, is being formed, and participants will begin reading the first book April 1.

The first club meeting will be Thursday, April 30, at 6 p.m. at the Recreation Center, building 2000. The group will meet on the last Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. For more information, call 608-388-3200.
