2014 Fort McCoy Guide available May 1 at post locations

The 2014 Fort McCoy Guide will be available Thursday, May 1. The online version, as well as a printable PDF, also will available through the Fort McCoy public website at www.mccoy.army.mil.

Print copies will be distributed through official channels and will be available at rack locations throughout the installation including the Exchange, building 1538; McCoy's Community Club, building 1571; and the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.
The online version of the guide will be updated on a continuous basis.

Expert to present mental health information to parents

The seminar, "Mental Health Concerns: What Every Parent Should Know," will be offered May 6 and 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the South Post Community Center, 6158 H Circle.

Participants will learn about mental health topics relevant to today's children, including anxiety, depression and behavioral issues. New research, current trends and effective parenting techniques will be discussed. A question-and-answer session also will be available.

The presenter, Diane Walker, is a licensed professional counselor who has extensive experience working with children of all ages.
She has provided in-home counseling for Families, and has provided outpatient therapy services. She also specializes in working with adolescents with oppositional issues, individuals and couples with life-stage transition adjustments, individuals with grief and/or trauma issues, and individuals with anger-control issues.

Walker also has extensive experience with women who are seeking empowerment, adolescents/adults who are questioning their sexuality, men and women involved in past or present abusive relationships, and parenting concerns.

Register no later than two business days prior to the presentation date to be attended by calling 608-388-3505. The presentation is open to all military, retirees, civilian workforce, Family members and registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

 

Sponsorship training available at ACS May 6

Sponsorship training will be held Tuesday, May 6 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Sponsorship is a commander's program that assists Soldiers, civilian employees and Families during the reassignment process, and improves unit or organizational cohesion and readiness.

Training topics include regulations and forms, program entitlements, types of sponsorship, sponsor responsibilities, commander responsibilities and e-sponsorship.

Unit sponsorship training can be scheduled by completing a Training Request Form six weeks in advance.

Free concert, lunch May 10 for military, Family members

Military personnel and their immediate Family members can attend a luncheon and concert presented by the Wounded Heroes Foundation Saturday, May 10 at McCoy's Community Club, building 1571.

A complimentary buffet lunch will be available from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. A live performance by Rockie Lynne will start at 1:30 p.m.

'The Delegator' topic for May 15 Supervisor Academy

The Supervisor Academy May session theme is "The Delegator."

This session will be held Thursday, May 15 at 8 a.m. at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center, building 2111.

Delegation is a fundamental skill required by any leader. Through role-play, participants will learn the steps of good delegation and the degrees of risk involved.

The Supervisor Academy is provided by ACS and the Fort McCoy Directorate of Human Resources.

It gives new and experienced military or civilian supervisors the opportunity to attend a 60- to 90-minute training session each month to learn new skills, improve existing skills and develop a supervisor's tool box.

May 20 class to teach 'Super Couponing'

A "Super Couponing" class will be held Tuesday, May 20 from noon to 2 p.m. at McCoy's Community Club, building 1571.

The class, taught by "Couponing Queen" Jill Cataldo, will teach participants how to maximize grocery savings and purchase hundreds of dollars worth of groceries for just pennies.

Cataldo also will share couponing secrets of the pros, identify stores that allow multiple coupons, define how to track sales and discounts online, and describe how to get the store to pay you to shop.

The workshop also will feature advanced couponing techniques, such as learning to combine multiple discounts, store promotions and coupons.

Cataldo has captured the attention of ABC's Nightline, Inside Edition, the CBS Early Show, ABC News, Fox News, and many other media outlets. She also is the author of a syndicated newspaper column, "Super-Couponing Tips."

Open House, Soldier Show set for May 17 at Fort McCoy

Fort McCoy has a fun-packed day planned Saturday, May 17 with the annual Armed Forces Day Open House and the U.S. Army Soldier Show on tap.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Invite your Family, friends and neighbors to experience all the activities available.

The open house event is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Many of the planned activities, such as camouflage-face painting, personalized ID tags, an interactive marksman gallery, and guided narrated bus tours will engage and educate guests.

The post's History Center and Commemorative Area buildings will be open throughout the day. As will the Equipment Park and Veterans Memorial Plaza.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May to recognize past and present members of the armed forces.

The Army Soldier Show will take the stage at 4 p.m. at Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The show, presented by Morale, Welfare and Recreation, features the musical talent of today's Soldiers.

This year's production, "Stand Strong" explores the foundational elements of what it is that instills the strength and character of the nations Soldiers and its Army. This is the 22nd year the show will perform at Fort McCoy.

Seating for the show is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Adult visitors must be prepared to show photo identification upon entering.

Open house visitors can access the event sites via Gate 15 off of Wisconsin Highway 21 between Tomah and Sparta. Soldier

Show guests will use the Main Gate for entrance and exit.
