Hiring our Heroes Job Fair set for April 10 at Fort McCoy

A Hiring Our Heroes Job Fair will be held Thursday, April 10 at Fort McCoy in building 50.

The event is open to veterans, transitioning active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members and military spouses.

The employment workshop portion, aimed at helping veterans and transitioning service members leverage military experience to achieve civilian career goals, begins at 11:30 a.m. The hiring fair is from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Toyota-sponsored and U.S. Army Reserve-supported event is being conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development-Office of Veterans Services, the Department of Labor Veterans' Employment and Training Service, the Wisconsin Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, The American Legion, NBC News, and other local partners. BMX event March 28 at Fort McCoy Exchange

BMX Flatland athlete Terry Adams will give BMX demonstrations at the Fort McCoy Exchange, building 1538, Friday, March 28 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. as part of a Red Bull event.

The event will also feature the Red Bull fire truck and Wings Team from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sportsman's Range to open for season April 5

Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range will open for the season Saturday, April 5. Hours will be Monday, Thursday and Friday 3 to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Annual membership rates are $60 for military personnel, $80 for non-military and $100 for a Family. Membership benefits include no league entrance fees; no daily range fees; discounts on range events; and a 10 percent discount on all range apparel.

Daily passes are $5 for military personnel and $7 for non-military. Daily combo passes — firearm and archery — are $8 military and $10 non-military.

Memberships can be purchased at Pine View Campground Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The range is open to active-duty and retired military, Department of Defense (DOD) appropriated fund and non-appropriated fund employees, retired civilian employees, DOD contractor employees working full-time at Fort McCoy identified through Department of the Army civilian common access cards. Immediate Family members and guests of all identifiable categories also may use the facility.

The facility includes a rifle range (50, 100 and 200 meters), pistol range (50 meters), combination trap and skeet shotgun range, an elevated archery range and a 3-D archery range.

'Positive Cash Flow Planning' set for April 8

The financial class, "Positive Cash Flow Planning," is set for Tuesday, April 8 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

The class will help participants develop and maintain a budget and get into the "nuts and bolts" of budgeting. The class will explore why so many people live paycheck-to-paycheck and myths versus facts on everyday financial-management decisions.

South Post garden plots available for rent

South Post garden plots are available for rent to authorized Fort McCoy Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons.

The rental fee for a 20-by-20-foot plot is $35 per plot.

The plots will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis to authorized patrons, with military Families having priority, until all plots are rented. For more information, call Pam Budda at 608-388-6461.

 

Alcohol Screening Day April 10; information display at McCoy's

National Alcohol Screening Day is Thursday, April 10. The Fort McCoy Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) office will provide informational handouts and confidential alcohol assessments at McCoy's Community Club, building 1571, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. IQ Alcohol Screening Day water bottles will be available to personnel who complete the assessment.

National Alcohol Screening Day informs, educates and raises awareness about the dangers of at-risk drinking, and features the very popular Drinking IQ campaign. Goals are to reduce the stigma of alcohol abuse, raise awareness, and connect those in need of help to the proper resources available.

Participants are encouraged to assess whether their drinking is having a negative effect on their lives or the lives of their loved ones. Military Pathways online alcohol abuse screening, available at www.militarymentalhealth.org, can help determine next steps.

Annual Easter Eggstravaganza set for April 12 on South Post

Fort McCoy's annual Easter Eggstravaganza event is Saturday, April 12 at the South Post Community Center, 6158 H Circle. The event is open to Fort McCoy employees and their Families.

Activities begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast with the Easter Bunny. The breakfast is $3 and includes a bagel, yogurt, banana and milk. Breakfast tickets can be purchased at the Rumpel Fitness Center, the Community Activity Center or online at https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/mccoyrectrac.html. Tickets are limited and must be purchased before April 4 to guarantee breakfast.

Photos with the Easter Bunny, face painting and Easter picture coloring and crafts will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

The Easter Egg Hunt begins at 10:30 a.m. Participants must bring their own basket.

Rifle-shooting competition April 12 at Sportsman's Range

A rifle-shooting competition will be held at Fort McCoy's Sportsman's Range Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m.

Shooters will compete in three rounds. Scoring will be based on accuracy and time taken to complete each round's objectives.

Participants must provide their own rifle and ammunition. Prizes will be awarded.

Registration fees are $5 for children 15 years old and younger and $10 for adults 16 and older plus daily range fees. There is no registration fee for range members. Registration is required by 10:30 a.m. the day of the competition.

Parenting with Love & Logic workshops start April 15

Parenting with Love & Logic workshops will be offered at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.
Modules 1-2 will be held Tuesday, April 15; modules 3-4, Tuesday, April 29; and modules 5-6, Tuesday, May 13. All workshops are from 8:15 a.m. to noon.

The workshop provides simple and practical techniques to help parents raise responsible kids, have more fun in their role as a parent, and easily and immediately change their children's behavior.

Love & Logic is a philosophy founded in 1977 by Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline, M.D. It is the approach of choice among leading educators, parents and other professionals worldwide.

April Showers 5K event set for April 16

An April Showers 5K Run/Walk will be held Wednesday, April 16 at 11:30 a.m. at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

The event is free and open to all authorized Morale, Welfare and Recreation patrons. Prizes will be awarded the first- and second-place male and female runners.

Pine View Campground extends operating hours

Fort McCoy's Pine View Campground hours have changed.

Through May 25, the Campground will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Starting May 26 hours will be Sunday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The campground offers lodging accommodations, a Camp Store, Recreational Equipment Checkout services, picnic shelter rentals, storage lots, an LP fill station, sale of Wisconsin and Fort McCoy fishing and hunting licenses and much more.
