Retiree Appreciation Day

Katherine O'Neill Tracy, a retired Navy Reserve commander, presents the legislative update during the Sept. 6 Retiree Appreciation Day event at Fort McCoy. Her talk covered the status of various benefits, such as medical, survivors' benefits, etc. A number of speakers presented information about various programs and services available to military retirees. Approximately 400 people attended the annual event.

Stetz-Puchalski instructs clients in awareness and skills necessary to negotiate issues relating to engagement, conflict, organizational transition/change, and work-life balance. Kathy McAfee, a motivational speaker, business woman and philanthropist, also shared her insights with the attendees at the Sept. 4 workshop.

Veterans Benefits Expo

Military retirees and veterans and their Family members attend a Veterans Benefits Expo at Fort McCoy. The Sept. 6 event, held in conjunction with the Retiree Appreciation Day event, allowed attendees to learn about eligibility criteria for state veterans benefits, programs and services, as well as application procedures.

Haunted Trails

Pine View Campground's Haunted Trails event treated participants to a 'frightfully' good time. The August event included a bonfire and s'mores. Activities offered throughout the weekend event included a costume contest, trick or treating and a campsite-decoration contest.

Commemorative Area visitors

The Fort McCoy Commemorative Area was open to the public in conjunction with the Retiree Appreciation Day Sept. 6, drawing nearly 75 visitors to the area. Fort McCoy's Commemorative Area has been recognized by the Department of the Army as being one of the best Community Relations program efforts Armywide. The Commemorative Area buildings are open for special events or for tours/visits by groups of 20 or more people from April through October.

The August event attracted pets and their owners from throughout the area.
