Pine View Campground summer activities to begin


Summer seasonal hours and activities will begin at Fort McCoy's Pine View Campground Memorial Day weekend May 24-27. Many of the activities will run through the Labor Day weekend Aug. 30-Sept. 2. The facility is open to the public.

The swimming beach and the camp store will be open daily from Friday, May 24 through Labor Day Monday, Sept. 2. Swimming Beach hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Campstore/Office hours will be Sunday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Equipment Recreation Checkout rental inventory includes paddle boats, canoes, pontoons, bass boats, fishing boats, fishing and camping equipment.

Anglers can purchase licenses and permits at Pine View Campground. The facility also will participate in the statewide free fishing weekend Saturday, June 1-Sunday, June 2.

Pine View also has several playgrounds (one handicapped accessible), volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoes, floor-shuffleboard games, pavilion areas, a number of lodging opportunities, a nine-hole disc golf course, hiking trails and an 18-hole miniature-golf course. The trail to Trout Falls begins at the picnic area. No fees are charged for use of the playgrounds, swimming or hiking.

Themed weekends will run throughout the summer months and include:

May 24-27 Pirates of the Caribbean; May 31-June 1 Battle of the Mud, including a mud run;

June 7-8 Fish and Fun; June 21-22 '50s Flashback Car Show; June 28-29 Kids on Wheels;

July 5-6 Fun on the 4th; July 12-13 Family Fun Day; July 19-20 Christmas in July; July 26-27 Beach Bum;

Aug. 2-3 Haunted Trails; Aug. 9-10 Dog Days of Summer; Aug. 23-24 Western Whig Out; Aug. 30-31 Sportsman's Days.
