Tomah VA Veterans Golf Course open

TOMAH, Wis. (Tomah VA Medical Center Public Affairs) — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Tomah Veterans Golf Course is open for play, weather permitting. The nine-hole course is open to the public and is located on the campus of the Tomah VA.

The Veterans Golf Course is a non-profit course. Its primary purpose is to provide a golf facility for veterans receiving care at the Tomah VA. Funds generated from public play and donations provide the means to operate and maintain the course.

For more than 10 years, the golf course has not relied on funding from the Tomah VA's budget. To keep the golf course available for hospitalized veterans to use, the facility relies on public support.

The Veterans Golf Course pro shop is operated by VA volunteers.

The Family friendly course features nine-holes and a par-36 layout. A pro shop, a pavilion with picnic tables, snacks and drinks for sale, and restrooms complete the facility.

The course is open from sun-up to sun-down, weather permitting. For the next month or so, spring rules apply.

When the flags are on the greens, the course is open for play.

Golfers who arrive when the pro shop is not open are asked to abide by the "honor system" and deposit their greens fee in the "honor box" located at the starter building.

Volunteer schedules may be sporadic during the first month of the season, so players are asked to be prepared to use the honor box.

Motorized carts, club and pull-carts are available for rent when the pro shop is manned by volunteers.

A season's pass costs $200.

The pass is good for unlimited golf throughout the 2013 golf season.

A punch card is also available. Golfers who purchase these cards golf 11 rounds for the price of 10 rounds. Punch cards from previous seasons will be honored.

Individuals interested in volunteering at the Veterans Golf Course are encouraged to call Tomah VA Voluntary Services at 608-372-1727. Volunteers always are needed.

Hole sponsorships are available for the 2013 golf season. For $250, a business, organization or individual can sponsor a hole and be recognized for doing so.

Tee times are not necessary, but if one is desired, call 608-372-1243.
