Paving, water main replacement projects under way

Paving and water main replacement work is under way at Fort McCoy.

Dan Hanson, the Fort McCoy Directorate of Public Works contract office representative for the projects, said the work will continue to upgrade the cantonment area infrastructure and is expected to continue through November.

All paving and water main projects are being funded with Sustainment Restoration Modernization funding.

Main paving projects will include a stretch on J Street and 8th Avenue from the bridge to building 2180. The J Street and 8th Avenue project is under way and is expected to take about five weeks, with a projected completion date by Memorial Day.

An e-mail has been sent to members of the installation work force with details about the work and a map of a detour route.

Detour signage also has been placed to direct motorists to alternate routes for the J Street, 8th Avenue project, he said.

Another major paving project is 13th Avenue from West A Street to West N Street and O Street from South 9th Avenue to East 12th Avenue.

Additional paving replacement projects are 14th Avenue from G to F Street and from building 2783 to building 2955; the parking lots for buildings 2784 and 2786; the parking lots for buildings 1680 and 1681; the MWR Car Wash parking lot, building 1568; B Street from West 12th Avenue to West 13 Avenue; C Street from West 12th Avenue to West 13th Avenue; D Street from West 12th Avenue to West 13th Avenue and from South 11th Avenue to South 10th Avenue; E Street from South 11th Avenue to South 10th Avenue; G Street from South 11th Avenue to South 10th Avenue; P Street from East 12th Avenue to East 13th Avenue; Q Street from East 12th Avenue to East 13th Avenue; and R Street from East 12th Avenue to East 13th Avenue.

The major water main replacement project will run along most of West 14th Avenue.

In addition to the West 14th Avenue water main replacement project, other water main replacement projects are scheduled for C Street, D Street, E Street, G Street, O Street (from South 9th Avenue to East 12th Avenue), P Street, Q Street, and R Street.

Because project times can fluctuate due to weather, scheduling deadlines, conflicts with other projects, etc., Fort McCoy personnel will be kept informed and updated about major projects and any detours via e-mail, Hanson said. Detour signs and/or message boards also will be posted in strategic locations along installation roads and streets, and near the Main Gate access area, whenever possible or as appropriate.

Mathy Construction of Onalaska, Wis., has the main contract for the road paving projects. The Mack Mechanical of Cookeville, Tenn., is the main contractor for the water main replacement work. Gerke Excavating of Tomah, Wis., is the subcontractor for the work.
