Additional games and activities, as well as easier entry, are available at the Fort McCoy Community Activity Center (CAC), building 2000, after a recent makeover.

Sheila Peterson, CAC manager, said the makeover included moving the front desk area to a position closer to the front entrance of the CAC.

Members of the 327th Engineer Company, an Army Reserve unit from Onalaska, Wis., helped move the desk to a former storage area as part of troop project work, Peterson said. CAC employees helped complete the remodeling/renovation by painting the new area, among other things.

"This allows the CAC employees to be in a smaller area and makes it easier to cover the desk with fewer personnel," Peterson said. "This also provides a more-efficient operation and makes for a hopefully speedier process to assist customers."

Peterson said the additional space allowed the CAC to move the games around and provide more space for customers to enjoy the games. The additional space also allowed the CAC to add a new air hockey table, new foosball and two new basketball shooting games.

"We wanted to add more recreation areas that are free for the Soldiers," Peterson said. "It also opens up the floor so authorized patrons can better see the activities we have available."

The CAC also offers many other services/activities for authorized patrons.

Patrons can rent DVD movies. Large-screen televisions are available. A free Saturday matinee movie is shown at 3 p.m.

A computer lab area has 24 computers with Internet access available for patrons' use. Patrons also can rent laptops and airtime cards.

As warmer weather approaches, the CAC will offer a number of outdoor activities, including sand volleyball. Footballs and soccer balls, as well as ladder golf and beanbag games are available.

An outdoor deck and patio area supports outdoor activities. Patrons can rent large grills to host organizational or unit parties.

A Leisure Travel Service Office offers travel information, including information about the Armed Forces Vacation Club. The facility serves as a ticket outlet for Disney and other theme parks, including Wisconsin Dells attractions.

Currently the facility is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
