Cardio fitness

Volleyball, basketball leagues registration under way  [ back to top ]
Registration for Fort McCoy’s volleyball and basketball leagues is under way. League play is held at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. The leagues are free and open to all authorized fitness center patrons who are at least 16-years-old. Patrons can sign up as individuals or teams. A minimum of four teams are required for each league.

The volleyball league will play Wednesdays, starting Jan. 9, at 5:15, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. Registration is required by Jan. 4.
The five-on-five basketball league will play Tuesdays, starting Jan. 8, at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.

McCoy offices, facilities close during holidays  [ back to top ]

Most offices and facilities at Fort McCoy will be closed Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25 and New Year’s Day, Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Many may also be closed Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24 and New Year’s Eve, Monday, Dec. 31.

Anyone planning to use facilities or visit offices is encouraged to call ahead of time to verify hours.

  

Defense Travel System classes available at McCoy  [ back to top ]

Defense Travel System (DTS) classes will be offered by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Lead Defense Travel Administrator at Fort McCoy in building 50, Distance Learning classroom 3.

The DTS Temporary Duty (TDY) Documents class will be held Dec. 19-20 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. This two-day class covers DTS definitions and acronyms, travel policy, navigating DTS, and how to create authorizations and vouchers in DTS. This class is designed for anyone who uses DTS for official travel. Registration is required by Dec. 15.

The DTS Approval Process and Travel Policy will be held Jan. 2 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. This one-day class explains the sources of Department of Defense (DoD) TDY Travel Policy and details the common rules to assist in the Review/Approval process. This class is for reviewers and approving officials. Registration is required by Dec. 26.

Classes are open to military and DoD civilian personnel. Class sizes are limited.

Frosty Foot Treadmill Race set for Dec. 20 at Rumpel  [ back to top ]
A Frosty Foot Treadmill Race will be held Thursday, Dec. 20 at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122. Runners can participate throughout the day from 5 a.m.-8 p.m.

Participants will run three miles on a treadmill and have their completion time recorded. Prizes will be awarded to the top-two male and female finishers.

All participants will receive a free ski lift pass or a free tubing pass.

There is no entry fee. Register at the fitness center or by calling 608-388-2290.

 

Land Assault challenge at fitness center Jan. 2-Feb. 28  [ back to top ]
A Land Assault challenge will be offered from Jan. 2-Feb. 28 at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Participants who attend 20 fitness classes will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $150 gift card to Valley View Mall.

Learn to build a resource library during Jan. 7 training  [ back to top ]

Building a Resource Library training will be offered Monday, Jan. 7 from 8-10 a.m. at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

The training will assist Family Readiness Group members and commanders on available resources within the community and online such as Military OneSource, Army OneSource.

My Army Benefits websites and many more. The training will provide the tools for participants to better assist Soldiers and Family members.

Nonappropriated fund items for sale in January at Fort McCoy  [ back to top ]
Cash-and-carry sales of surplus nonappropriated fund items will be held Tuesdays Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29 at building 643 at Fort McCoy.

The sales open at 8 a.m. to Common Access Card holders, military personnel and military retirees with a valid ID, and at 9 a.m. to the general public. The sales will end at noon.

Sale items include TV’s, recliners, micro-fridges, coffee makers, furniture, beds and much more. Items are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, must be paid for by cash or check and must be picked up at the time of purchase. For information, call 608-388-4397.

 

Learn to parent with love and logic during January workshop  [ back to top ]

A Parenting with Love & Logic workshop will be offered in January at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

Modules 1-2 will be held Thursday, Jan. 10 from 8:30-noon; modules 3-4, Thursday, Jan. 17, 8:30-noon; and modules 5-6, Thursday, Jan. 24, 8 a.m.-noon.

The workshop aims to put the fun back into parenting and helps parents raise children who are self-confident, motivated and ready for the real world. Parents will learn how to establish healthy control without resorting to anger, threats, nagging or exhausting power struggles.

Love & Logic is a philosophy founded in 1977 by Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline, M.D. It is the approach of choice among leading educators, parents, and other professionals worldwide. For more information or to register, call 608-388-3505. Registration must be completed by Thursday, Jan. 3. 

 

Family Calendar Workshop set for Jan. 12  [ back to top ]

Army Community Service will hold a Family Calendar Workshop Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at building 1130.

Families will use rubber stamp art, stickers and many more fun items to design a personalized 2013 calendar. Families can also bring their own photos to incorporate into their calendar.

Registration is required by Monday, Jan. 7. Class size is limited. A minimum of one adult and one child per Family is required. For more information or to register, call 608-388-3505.  

 

AFTB Instructor Trainer course offered Jan. 15-17  [ back to top ]
An Army Family Team Building (AFTB) Instructor Trainer course will be held Jan. 15 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Jan. 16-17 from 8 a.m.-noon. The three-day class will be held at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

The course will equip participants with the skills to become effective instructors and qualify them as instructors of the AFTB program.

Topics will include introduction to effective instructors, platform skills, the adult learner, managing the learning environment, methods of instruction, the preparation process, and speaking on your feet. Participants also will be required to give a 10-minute presentation as part of the course. Register by Wednesday, Jan. 9 by calling 608-388-3505.

 

Army MWR credit card available to authorized patrons  [ back to top ]
Authorized patrons of Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), Army and Air Force Exchange Service and Defense Commissary Agency facilities at Fort McCoy are eligible to apply for an Army MWR Chase MasterCard credit card.

Every time customers use the credit card to make on-post or off-post purchases, they support the Army MWR program. The Army MWR credit card is available to any authorized MWR customer, including Soldiers, Families, retirees and civilians. Card holders should note that not all authorized MWR patrons can shop in all of the facilities. Many Exchange and all Commissary products and services, for example, are limited for purchase only by authorized military patrons, who must have a valid military ID card.

Customers can earn cash or gift rewards for using the credit card, and no annual fees are charged. No federal endorsement is implied.

Authorized personnel can apply for the card at local MWR activities or at the website www.ChaseMilitary.com/Army.
