The 1st, 310th Infantry Battalion of the 181st Infantry Brigade held an outreach event with cadets from the Challenge Academy at Fort McCoy. The military unit set up eight stations, including this one about a Humvee. Soldiers reported the cadets were excited to see the various equipment and asked many good questions about their mission.

Members of the Fort McCoy community taste cookies during the cookie bake-off at the Community Activity Center Dec. 7. For a $1 fee, participants could sample the 21 cookie entries and then vote for their favorite cookie. The cookie with the most votes was the “special” Elf cookie submitted by Jenny Hockstedler.

Friends and members of the Green Tree Chapter of the American Society of Military Comptrollers wrap donated gifts for veterans in the Veterans Assistance Program and Veterans Assistance Foundation Program at the Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The gifts included clothing, games, movies, personal hygiene items and more. Items were donated by Fort McCoy personnel, Family members and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The organization wrapped more than 150 gifts.

Reverend Monsignor Delbert Malin (left) is congratulated after the Nov. 25 Catholic Mass at Fort McCoy by Garrison Commander Col. Steven W. Nott after being conferred the religious title by Pope Benedict XVI. Malin, a contract priest who serves at the Fort McCoy Catholic Chapel, was recognized by the pope for his service to the Catholic Church and promoted to the position of monsignor. He was one of 11 priests in the La Crosse Diocese to receive the title.

Paul Hughes (top) puts the finishing touches on the new railing on a foot bridge at Pine View Recreation Area. Hughes, a member of Boy Scout Troop 7 of Sparta, had 12 volunteers help him build and install new benches — to replace unsafe benches — on a foot bridge as part of his Eagle Scout project.
