FEHB Open Season to continue through Dec. 14  [ back to top ]

The 2009 Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Open Season is under way and will end Monday, Dec. 14.

New enrollments/changes in enrollment will take effect Jan. 3, 2010.

FEHB enrollment or changes must be made online at the Army Benefits Center-Civilian (ABC-C) Web site (https://www.abc.army.mil). Personnel who wish to speak to a counselor at ABC-C should call the toll-free number at 877-276-9287.

Personnel in the Fort McCoy service area with FEHB concerns can contact the Fort McCoy Civilian Personnel Advisory Center at 608-388-2722.

Updates about the health, dental and vision programs can be viewed at the Office of Personnel Management Web site at http://www.opm.gov/insure.

 

Combined Federal Campaign under way through Dec. 15   [ back to top ]

The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) in the Fort McCoy community is under way and will end Tuesday, Dec. 15.

CFC is the only authorized fund-raising campaign held in the federal work force.

Funds support a number of programs, including arts/humanities, education, health, youth development, employment, crisis intervention and more, as well as local organizations.

Key people have been appointed for each directorate/organization at Fort McCoy. McCoy participates in the Badgerland CFC.

Run ... Splash ... Lift event begins Jan. 4  [ back to top ]

Authorized patrons of the Fort McCoy Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122, are welcome to participate in the Run … Splash … Lift program to help get in shape in the upcoming year.

The program will run from Jan. 4-Feb. 25. Eligible military and federal civilian personnel must attend 24 fitness classes — an average of three per week — at the fitness center. All classes are free.

Those who complete the requirements will receive special Morale, Welfare and Recreation prizes and a chance to participate in a drawing for a $200 gift card to MC Sports. No federal endorsement is implied.

Participants will need to fill out a registration form and give it to class instructors to obtain an attendance card. Registration forms are available online at http://www.mccoymwr.com/Flyers/Run%20Lift%20Splash.pdf or at the fitness center.

Completed cards must be turned in by Feb. 25 to be eligible for the gift card drawing. One entry is allowed per person.

Volleyball League sign-up under way, play starts Jan. 6    [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy winter coed volleyball league is accepting individuals and teams for play, which will be held Wednesday nights, beginning Jan. 6, 2010, at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Registration is under way and will close Friday, Jan. 1.

Individuals and teams must be authorized users of the fitness center.

National Federation Volleyball rules will be used.

Matches will be held at 5:15 p.m., 6:15 p.m.. and 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays.

Registration can be done at the fitness center front desk.

The Real McCoy to resume publication Jan. 8, 2010  [ back to top ]

This is the final The Real McCoy issue for the 2009 calendar year. The newspaper will resume publication with the Jan. 8, 2010 issue, which has a deadline of Wednesday, Dec. 30.

The Real McCoy is printed the second and fourth Fridays of the month, except for December when a single issue is published on the second Friday.

Texas Hold 'Em League play held on Thursday nights    [ back to top ]

Play in the Texas Hold ’Em League is held at 6 p.m. Thursdays at the Fort McCoy Community Activity Center (Recreation Center), building 2000.

Each night is considered a separate competition for individual tournament play. Authorized patrons, 18 and older, can participate. Play won’t be held Dec. 24 and 31 because of the holidays.

Prizes are awarded for first place. Pre-registration is not required.

2010 Family Calendar workshop set for Jan. 9   [ back to top ]

A 2010 Family Calendar workshop will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1130 South S. St. at Fort McCoy.

Registration is open to military families having duty within a 50-mile radius of Fort McCoy; Fort McCoy Department of Defense, Nonappropriated Fund or contract employees; retired Military residing within a 25-mile radius of Fort McCoy; or registered Fort McCoy volunteers.

Families will use rubber stamp art, stickers and many more fun items to design their own personalized 2010 calendar.

All supplies are furnished except for the photos you bring along.

A minimum one adult and one child is required to register.

Register early because of limited class sizes and not later than close of business Dec. 30 by calling Fort McCoy Army Community Service at 608-388-3505.
 

YMCA essay, art contests under way, to end in February 2010   [ back to top ]

The Armed Services (AS) YMCA is inviting children of U.S. Armed Forces members to create artwork and essays centered on the themes, “My Military Hero” and “My Military Family” for the annual contest, which began during the Military Family Appreciation Month in November.

The contest is open to all eligible children of U.S. active-duty or retired servicemembers.
Winners of both the art and essay contests will have their winning entries displayed in a number of locations in the Washington, D.C., area, including in the Russell Rotunda, and will be recognized at an annual luncheon on Capitol Hill.

ASYMCA will award U.S. Savings Bonds to first- and second-place winners of both contests, as well as honorable mention recipients of the essay contest.

Entries for the art contest should depict the theme, “My Military Family,” and must be postmarked no later than Feb. 19, 2010.

The art contest promotes art among children in grades kindergarten through six of active-duty or retired members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard/Reserve families.

The essay contest promotes reading and writing among children and teens of active duty military or retirees from all six branches.

Students in grades one through 12 are asked to write about “My Military Hero,” and postmark their entries no later than March 19, 2010.

Pine View to begin accepting reservations for 2011  [ back to top ]

Pine View Campground at Fort McCoy soon will be accepting reservations for 2011.

Customers who are Military ID Card Holders can make reservations from Dec. 26-31. Beginning Jan. 2, 2010, reservations are open to all others.
