slightly delayed the opening of the Whitetail Ridge Ski Area at Fort
McCoy, with the facility now scheduled to open Monday, Dec. 26, weather
to highlight special events
Winter Extravaganza, scheduled for
Saturday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., highlights the list of
special events at Fort McCoy’s Whitetail Ridge Ski Area. The
Family friendly event is open to the public.
Other events scheduled for the 2011-2012 season include:
Rail Jam, Dec. 28; Military Appreciation, Jan. 7; a Super Bowl
Party, Feb. 4; “Aint Your Mama’s Chili Cook Off,” Feb. 11; and
Customer Appreciation, March 3. All events are on Saturdays
except for Rail Jam, which will be held on a Wednesday.
Other specials include:
• Youth can bring in a report card (with a minimum of two A’s or
the equivalent) on Friday nights and receive either a free
tubing pass or a lift ticket. This offer is valid only in

Pam Budda, Fort McCoy Outdoor Recreation manager, said Fort McCoy
crews began making snow Dec. 1 to augment Mother Nature’s work. The
facility has a full schedule of activities planned.
“We’re bringing back the favorites from last year, snow tubing,
snowboarding and downhill skiing,” Budda said. “Everything will be just
the way people who were here last year remember it, so it should be easy
for them to get back into the swing of things and enjoy the winter
season at Fort McCoy.”
Whitetail Ridge will be open holiday hours from Dec. 26-Jan. 1. The
hours will be noon-8 p.m. Dec. 26-Dec. 31 and noon-6 p.m. Jan. 1. After
the holidays, the regular hours for Whitetail Ridge and the Ski Chalet
will be Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through about mid-March, weather
permitting. Budda said the hours will be 4:30-9 p.m. Fridays; noon-9
p.m. Saturdays; and noon-6 p.m. Sundays.
Fees to rent equipment or use the lifts or tows are unchanged.
Individual/Family season passes and cross-country and downhill
ski-equipment rental season passes are available at a discount until
Dec. 23 and are available to the public.
