A Soldier from the 1430th Engineer
Company operates an armored backhoe loader (HDL) at Fort McCoy’s
Contingency Operating Location Freedom where the Gladstone,
Mich., Army National Guard unit repaired a security berm. The
HDL is a relatively new piece of equipment in the engineer
inventory, upgraded from previous models with armor and an
engine that provides more speed so the vehicle can more easily
keep up with equipment movement.

Community Activity Center
Soldiers make use of three pool
tables and three table tennis tables at the Fort McCoy Community
Activity Center. Many of the 2,400 Soldiers of the 197th Fires
Brigade visited the center on their off-duty time, particularly
the final few days of their mobilization stay at Fort McCoy
before deploying in support of Operation New Dawn.
Senior officers and
non-commissioned officers participate in the annual tradition of
serving the Thanksgiving meal to Soldiers at the installation’s
dining facilities. Above, Col. Scott McFarlane, right, and
Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffrey Uhlig serve Thanksgiving dinner to
Soldiers of the 1430th Engineer Company at Fort McCoy’s
Contingency Operating Location Freedom dining area. McFarlane is
the new deputy commander for mobilization at Fort McCoy. Uhlig
is the command sergeant major for mobilization.
