The ceremony began with remarks by Col. David E. Chesser, Fort McCoy
garrison commander, who then fired a ceremonial shot downrange and hit
the target dead center.
Guests also had the chance to use the facility’s Rifle Range (50, 100
and 200 meters), Pistol Range (50 meters) and Combination Trap & Skeet
Shotgun Range. Other opening activities included a variety of door
prizes, including a rifle.
Pam Budda, Fort McCoy Outdoor Recreation Manager, said in support of the
Army Family Covenant, Fort McCoy Family and Morale, Welfare and
Recreation (MWR) is committed to providing Soldiers and Families a
quality of life that is commensurate with their service.
“The Family and MWR Sportsman’s Range is the newest offering to the
entire Fort McCoy community and will provide an additional recreational
opportunity on the installation,” Budda said.
The new facility is for authorized patrons and invited guests.
Hours of operation for the Sportsman’s Range are Nov. 12-14 9 a.m.-5
p.m. and Nov. 15-19 3-6 p.m. The facility will be open from Nov.
20-March 31, 2011 for groups of three or more. The facility currently
doesn’t have lighting.
Introductory fees of $3 for daily range use (not including ammunition)
and trap/skeet fees of $3 per round are in effect through Dec. 31.
Authorized patrons and invited guests can enter the facility from State
Highway 21 by going to Gate 19 (toward Pine View and Whitetail Ridge)
