Fort McCoy U.S. Army Garrison Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander Capt. Matthew Wright  presents a safety briefing before weapons training.
Fort McCoy U.S. Army Garrison Headquarters and Headquarters Company Soldiers conducted weapons training Oct. 18 at Fort McCoy, one of many tasks they accomplish to keep their military and technical skills current.

Company Commander Matthew Wright said the training consisted of zeroing and qualifying with M4 rifles for enlisted Soldiers and firing M9 pistols for the officers.

“We do this twice-a-year to keep our weapons skills honed,” Wright said. “Just because we’re in a garrison setting, it does not mean that we don’t need to have these skills or won’t ever use them. We have to be ready to accomplish any mission we receive.”

Soldiers also must pass the Army Physical Fitness Training test twice a year.

Soldier Warrior Task training and other required training also must be completed throughout the year, Wright said.
