What is it?

The credit union was organized in 1935 at Rock Island Arsenal, Ill.,
then branched out to 10 additional locations throughout Illinois, Iowa
and Wisconsin. The Rock Island Arsenal and Fort McCoy branches are the
only branches on a military installation serviced by RIA FCU. Prior to
RIA FCU, the Fort McCoy Credit Union was the financial institution on
the installation. RIA FCU established its presence at Fort McCoy in 1983
when it merged with the Fort McCoy Credit Union.
Approval for financial institutions on military installations is
governed by Department of Defense Financial Management Regulations, as
well as a Lease Agreement with the Corps of Engineers and a Memorandum
of Agreement between the financial institution and the installation.
Civilian or military personnel who work or train at Fort McCoy, the
Tomah Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and military retirees are
eligible for membership, as are immediate Family members (spouses,
children and parents).
The credit union’s motto “Once a member, always a member” assures
members that they will be served even if they are transferred or move
out of the area.
What have they done?
RIA FCU operates three ATMs on the installation. The ATMs are available
to anyone visiting Fort McCoy, including non-members. The ATM is free
for members, otherwise a surcharge fee applies. Additionally, there is
no charge for use at RIA FCU ATM machines for ATM/debit cards under the
Armed Forces Federal Network or The Privileged Status network, otherwise
a surcharge will be charged.
The credit union recently activated mobile banking.
With mobile apps for Android and iPhone, members can set up cell phone
alerts and accomplish banking at anytime, from anywhere.
RIA FCU actively supports community organizations and events, including
Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation; Fort McCoy’s Armed Forces Day
Open House; Tomah’s 4th of July parade and the Holiday parade; the
Neighbor for Neighbor food pantry; Children’s Miracle Network; Unmet
Needs and Cell Phones for Soldiers.
What do they have planned?
RIA FCU is scheduled to move into a newly renovated facility in the
April 2013 time frame. The new facility will be across from the Exchange
and will be more visible to the Fort McCoy community. It will have an
outdoor walk-up ATM vestibule and a large night-time deposit box. In
addition, RIA FCU will provide a member service loan officer two to
three times a week.
Why are they important?
The credit union is federally insured by the National Credit Union
Administration and Excess Share Insurance.
Having a financial branch on the installation allows businesses such as
