Gun-deer hunt to be held Nov. 20-28

With the Fort McCoy gun-deer season less than a month away, the Fort McCoy wildlife program is focusing on making the Nov. 20-28 hunt a success.

All of the permits for the gun-deer hunt have been issued, said David Beckmann, Fort McCoy wildlife biologist. A limited number of bonus tags again will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for the 2010 gun-deer season.

Hunters who have a permit and would like to purchase a bonus tag can obtain one over the counter from any authorized Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Automated License Issuance System (ALIS) agent beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25.

Hunters are reminded to carefully read the Fort McCoy hunting regulation. An online version of the regulation can be obtained through the Fort McCoy public website at http://www.mccoy.army.mil/RecreationOpportunities/Fishing%20&%20Hunting/documents/fmcReg420-29NoMaps.pdf. Hunting maps are not available online and must be obtained from the Welcome Center or Permit Sales Office.

Printed regulations and/or maps are available at Pine View Campground, building 8053, the Welcome Center, building 35, the Permit Sales Office, building 2168, and the Post Exchange, building 1538.

A limited quantity of printed regulations/maps also is available at Rosco’s in Tomah, Wis., and Don and Vi’s in Sparta, Wis.
Motorists in the Fort McCoy area are reminded to be careful because the deer are beginning to move, Beckmann said.

For more information about the regulations or maps, call the Permit Sales Office at 608-388-3337 from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. weekdays or send e-mails to usarmy.mccoy.imcom-northeast.mail.dpw-permit-sales@mail.mil.
