C-130 training

Whitetail Ridge Ski Area offering Early Bird Specials through Dec. 23  [ back to top ]
Fort McCoy’s Whitetail Ridge Ski Area is offering Early Bird Specials on individual/Family season passes, and cross-country and downhill ski equipment rental season passes. The specials are available until Dec. 23 and are open to the public.

Whitetail Ridge is open from mid-December through mid-March and offers downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

 

Preschool openings available at Child Development Center  [ back to top ]
The Child Development Center has openings in its preschool program.

The state-of-the-art facility is funded by the Army Family Covenant and is accredited by the National Association of Education of the Young Child.

Children enrolled in the program are provided breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. Developmentally appropriate activities also are provided.

NAF sets sealed-bid sale for South Post mobile homes  [ back to top ]
A non-appropriated fund sealed-bid sale of mobile homes will be held at Fort McCoy.

Available for bid are three two-bedroom 14-by-60 foot homes and one three-bedroom 14-by-70 foot home.

All mobile homes have had new vinyl siding, roofs, carpet and vinyl flooring installed within the last five years.

The public can view the properties Oct. 13-14 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Directional signs to the site location on South Post will be posted on Highway 21.

Bid forms, envelopes and a submission box will be available on site.

Sealed bids will be accepted through Oct. 21. Bids also can be turned in at or mailed to the Lodging Manager Office, 51 S. O St., Fort McCoy, WI 54656. All bids must be received by Oct. 21.

No minimum bid is established. Winning bidders will be notified Oct. 24.

Purchasers will be required to relocate mobile homes off South Post by Nov. 23.

McCoy AFAP Conference being held Oct. 19-20  [ back to top ]

The 2011 Fort McCoy Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) Conference will be held Oct. 19-20 at building 2111.

Members of the Fort McCoy community are welcome to attend from 10 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and at 1 p.m. Oct. 20 for the conference report-out to the garrison commander.

The AFAP Conference volunteers will review and make recommendations on issues submitted by the Fort McCoy community throughout the year.

Red Cross blood drive Oct. 21 at Rumpel Fitness Center  [ back to top ]

An American Red Cross blood drive is being held Friday, Oct. 21 from 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.

Safety Day at Fort McCoy set for Oct. 27 at building 905  [ back to top ]
The Installation Safety Office (ISO) and the 88th Regional Support Command (RSC) Safety Office will host the Fort McCoy Safety Day Thursday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m., at building 905.

The event will focus on health and wellness, motor vehicle safety, recreational safety, and workplace/home/seasonal safety. There will be interactive events and displays for each of these safety emphasis programs.

Interactive events include a firearms safety booth, motorcycle simulator, fire extinguisher use to extinguish a flame, auto inspections, blood pressure screening, and flu shots. Participants in each of these activities are eligible to enter a special drawing for a prize for that event.

Prizes include a sporting goods gift certificate, fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide detector, gas card, free oil change and an Icon motorcycle vest. No federal endorsement is implied.

All attendees will be eligible to enter the door-prize drawing sponsored by the ISO, 88th RSC Safety office and Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. Prizes include free ski lift and tubing passes for Whitetail Ridge Ski Area, a free cabin stay at Pine View Campground, free meals at Primo’s Express, coolers, car wash tokens and more.

Food also will be available for purchase.

Halloween events at Fort McCoy Oct. 29, 31  [ back to top ]
Two Halloween events are being held at Fort McCoy in October.

A Halloween party will be held Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at McCoy’s, building 1571. Specialty drinks and extreme bowling will be available for purchase. Prizes for the best costume will be awarded.

A Halloween costume run/walk relay will be held Monday, Oct. 31 at 11:30 a.m. at the Rumpel Fitness Center, building 1122.
Each relay team will have three team members who each will run one mile of a three-mile race.

All participants must wear Halloween costumes.

The team with the best combined time will receive a prize. Prizes for the top-three Halloween costumes also will be awarded.
Registration ends at 10:30 a.m. the day of the relay, pre-registration is encouraged. There is no registration fee.

Personal Development Skills workshops held at South Post  [ back to top ]

The Fort McCoy Army Family Team Building program offers Building Personal Development Skills workshops Wednesdays at the South Post Community Center, building 6158. The workshops are from 9 a.m.-noon.

Crisis, Coping and Acknowledging Change will be offered Oct. 26. Register by Friday, Oct. 21.

Managing Group Conflict and Building Cohesive Teams will be offered Nov. 2. Register by Friday, Oct. 28.

Thrift Savings Plan workshops set for November at ACS   [ back to top ]
Two Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) workshops will be offered in November at the Army Community Service Center, building 2111.

The TSP Getting Started workshop is Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 1-4 p.m. The workshop is designed for beginning investors who are interested in learning how to open a TSP account, make TSP investment choices, and develop an investment strategy based upon financial goals and needs.

The TSP Retirement workshop is Thursday, Nov. 3 from 8-11:30 a.m. This workshop is targeted for TSP investors who are planning on retiring within the next 15 years. The focus of the workshop is TSP investment choices and their compositions.

The workshop also examines withdrawal and annuity options for participants, including the transferring of money in and out of the TSP program with other qualified retirement accounts.

Family Christmas Card workshops offered in November  [ back to top ]

Family Christmas Card workshops will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 and Nov. 19 from 9-11:30 a.m. at building 1130.

All supplies needed for Families to create personalized Christmas cards will be provided.

The workshop is open to Families registered in the Fort McCoy Family Focus Program. Each Family attending must include a minimum of one adult and one child. Class sizes are limited.
