FY 2013 Strong Bonds training open for military, Family members

Strong Bonds training sessions to help build resiliency in Soldiers and their Family members will be offered in fiscal year (FY) 2013 by the 88th Regional Support Command (RSC), which is headquartered at Fort McCoy.

Classes will be designed for singles, married couples or Families. Single and Married Classes are three-day training events.

Family Classes are four-day training events. All personnel attending the classes must live within the 88th’s 19-state region. Funding to attend classes is available for Reserve (Troop Program Unit) Soldiers, Active Guard/Reserve and Mobilized Soldiers who live within 400 miles of the location of the training they plan to attend. Fort McCoy Active Guard/Reserve and U.S. Army Reserve Mobilized Soldiers also are eligible to attend a training session.

Military personnel choose the most-relevant training for their lives that is in accordance with eligibility requirements. Class descriptions are:
Strong Bonds Marriage Training: For married Soldiers and their spouses. This event will strengthen marriages by improving communication, conflict resolution skills, and reconnecting in a team dynamic. Soldiers and spouses must be legally married. Spouses must be enrolled in DEERS (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System) to attend this event. Girlfriends/boyfriends, significant others and fiancées are not authorized. Child care is not available.
Training dates: Chicago Nov. 16-18, 2012, Kansas City Feb. 22-24, Chicago March 8-10, Seattle March 22-24, Chicago and Denver May 3-5, and May 17-19; Kansas City April 5-7, and St. Louis July 12-14.

Strong Bonds Single Soldier Training: Enhances decision-making skills that can be applied in all relationships. This event also will give single Soldiers the tools to build friendship, trust, reliance, and commitment in respectful and lasting relationships. Child care is not available.
Training dates: Chicago Feb. 22-24, May 17-19, Aug. 2-4; Seattle March 22-24, and Kansas City April 5-7.

Strong Bonds Family Training: For military Families to enhance their relationship skills, improve Family cohesion, and address challenges and changes within the Family. Families must have one child at least 7 years old to attend. Children ages 7 and older will participate in sessions. Child care is available for children 6 and younger.
Training dates: Chicago March 8-10, Aug. 16-18, Denver June 21-23 and St. Louis July 26-28.

An additional Family training session(s) may be scheduled for September.

Soldiers must use the Defense Travel System for all travel to Strong Bonds training.
